Tell your 'what the heck was that thing?' scary story

I have a story! This actually happened last night.
In my dream I had last night, there were short, strange screams. Every time there was a scream there flashed a scary scene. I don't remember what the scene was, but it sure was scary! The combination of the eerie scream and the scene was so freaky that I jolted awake. But the dream went on and the screams kept happening. I don't remember clearly what happened but I had a little freak-out moment because I was half-asleep and freaked out of my mind. Then I realized that I wasn't dreaming anymore, and that the screams were real. In fact, they were coming from right outside my window. They were short, loud, and repetitive screams. They repeated about every 5 seconds.
My first instinct was to get up and look out my window. By the time I got to the window, the screams were already getting quieter as whatever made the sound headed south. I looked in the direction of where the screams were coming from but I didn't see anything that would've been making the sound. I got up shakily and told my mom what I had heard. She had heard it, too. We both went downstairs to look out the front door but we didn't find anything and the screams had faded away. I went back to bed, still a little shaky and shocked from what just happened.
I still have no idea what it was. I would think that if it were a person that was screaming, they would've been longer, louder, and there would've been crying involved also. What I heard was repetitive, loud, short screams. But they didn't sound like animal screeches or anything. I don't quite know how to explain it.
My mom and I are both very surprised that none of our neighbors got up to see what was going on. But then again, I guess most people are in a deep sleep around 2:30am.
Today as I was discussing the scenario with my mom again, she told me that as the sound trailed off, it did not go in the direction of the south, but instead moved north. If I would've looked to my right instead of my left, I would've seen whatever thing made those eerie sounds. But then again, maybe it's better that I didn't see it.......

This is very a very interesting thread! I enjoying hearing people's stories.

ChickenPeep, Sasquatches/Bigfoot are known to make sounds like that.

After reading through this entire thread I feel confident I can share some of my stories without being thought of as tooooo crazy. :D

My entire life I have had experiences with paranormal things. My earliest memories are from a house I lived in in Phoenix for about 10 years, and my mom and grandparents lived there for about 20 years before that. They always told me stories about strange things going on there before I was born. My own personal experiences there far out did what she told me. There was banging on the outside wall of my bedroom one night during a slumber party I had. My mom had this same experience when she was younger in the same room. Investigation both times, years apart mind you, revealed nothing that could have made that sound, something huge slamming against the side of the house multiple times. Another time, in the room next to that one, I was sleeping with my foot hanging off the bed when something grabbed my foot and yanked. I was up and looking so quickly there was no time for anything to hide. In this same room my mom had something pick up the foot of her bed, with a heavy metal frame, and violently shook it. The entrance to the crawlspace in the attic was in the closet in this room and I was always confident "it" lived in there. My clothes, books, hairbrushes, and many other things would disappear and reappear days, weeks, and even months later in places they just could not have gotten.
In this same house there was a room that had not been redone like the rest of the house. It still had original wallpaper and carpeting. It even smelled old. This room was right off a large family room my mom had turned into a play room for us kids. I never saw anything in there, but I definitely felt something very very bad in there. It was always cold and dark, even with the lights on or the window opened, and it always left a feeling of dread in me. Like that coldness from the room got inside of me. I always hurried when I had to go in there. It was used for storage so if my mom sent me to dig for something I would just wait outside the door and tell her I couldn't find it.
In the play room I just mentioned I also saw a little girl in an old fancy dress with ribbons in her hair standing in the corner. My cousin was there with me and when we started to talk to her she just faded away.
now this is where people may start to call me crazy, but does anyone remember the Phoenix Lights incident? I do. What ever that was flew right over my back yard. I was on the phone with my best friend and I just stopped talking and said "look towards my house, do you see this?" It was a massive structure, with many lights of different sizes and a few different colors. The thing was so low I could make out the shape of it. It was triangular on the bottom, with a sqaured off shape missive in the back. Like an "A", but with the triangle in the top part of the "A" filled in. The sides went straight up and down and had circular lights on the sides. I watched it come from over the freeway and
When it was right above my house I froze. For the.first time in my life I felt like going to hide under my covers. I ran inside screaming for my mom and dad and they came out but at this time it had moved away from our house and they weren't nearly as impressed by it as I was. This thing was HUGE and completely silent. No breeze, reverberations, nothing came from it. Even the lights seemed to be.contained somehow, if that makes sense. Now I have continuously researched reports on the phoenix lights, and no where have I found ANY pictures that look like what I saw.
I hope you all don't think I'm to crazy. I know I am but I also know what I have seen is real. I've.got many more stories about. strange things if any one cares to hear more. Including many about my "pet ghost", whom has been affectionately named Jeffrey, who has followed me my entire life! Many of them are quite recent too.

I just wanted to add in there that I stood on my back porch, under the protection of my tin awning of course!, on the.phone with.my friend and watched.this thing go over my back yard. It took, what felt like, the better part of fifteen minutes to go completely over my backyard. It wasn't a huge yard by any means, but it was a large yard for a house in the city. I can still see the.thing directly centered over my yard and having the feeling that this was the last thing I was going to see as clearly as if it just happened last night. My heart is going just recounting to y'all
