Tell your 'what the heck was that thing?' scary story

I read all of these stories...and WOW! I also believe there is more out there than what can be proven.

I have two stories, both involve my Dad.

The first ... I went home for my birthday, the year after I got married for the first time since my wedding. My Dad was only 48, and his job was literally killing him with the stress and demands. I begged him to look for a different job, become a consultant, do anything to leave that toxic situation. He hadn't been feeling well, and did say he was going to see a Dr. the next week.

I had a dream - a horrible dream, after I had been home about a week. My father had died of a heart attack. He had been in his car, but had gotten off the road and was by himself. When I woke up, I was hysterical. My husband couldn't calm me down. He wouldn't ylet me try to call my dad in the middle of the night, but asked me to try his office in the morning. When I did call (I still believed something had happened), his secretary told me he was out of the office, but was fine. I asked her to have him call me just to make sure, and he did - although I am sure he felt I was being overly concerned.

A month and a half later, my father died - exactly as I had envisioned it. He was in his car, and had a massive heart attack. Back then, mobile phones were bag phones and coverage was spotty at best. He was found at a fishing parking area, noticed by a trucker who saw the car with a person inside for 2 days straight. He died with his phone in his hand, probably trying to find a signal. He got off the road, before he could hurt anyone else.

I still miss my Dad. It's been almost 19 years.

The second ... My dad had a 1991 Cougar XR7, a bada$$ car. His pride and joy, as all of us kids had either finally moved out or were working/self-sufficient, and he could finally buy something for himself. That was the car he passed away in.

My mom got the car, of course. My sister still lived at home. They would occasionally drive the car, so it wouldn't just sit. My sister liked a guy my Dad couldn't stand. One day, this guy asked my sister if she could pick him up and take him to work, as his normal ride wasn't available. She took the Cougar that day to pick him up. When he got in, the car started making a 'ding, ding, ding' noise, like when the door isn't shut, or the seatbelt isn't engaged. They tried everything to make it stop - open and shut the doors, buckled all the seat belts (even those in the back seat), turned the car off and re-started it - nothing worked. The car kept making the 'dinging' noise all the way to his work. When he got out of the car, the 'dinging' noise stopped. He never got in the car again, and the car never did that again. He swore it was my Dad, voicing his displeasure that the guy rode in 'his' car. Knowing my Dad, it could have been! It never did work out between my sister and that guy.

I have so many of them!!!!!
One day at my friends house we got really spooked. It was hot and she will not use the A/C for anything. We had been lounging around on the couch all day watching t.v. At about 5 in the evening I asked if we should open the front door since it was going to start cooling down soon. She agreed. I stood up and took 2 steps to the front door and if freaking opened by it's self! Her hubby had to pick us at the bar after he got off of work. Another time at her house I woke up in the middle of the (routine for me). When I left the room I noticed this weird light coming from the kitchen. When I walked into the kitchen I found ALL of the burners on, they has been on so long that the grates (?) were cherry red. Another time she called me in the middle of the night. They had heard a really loud noise and found their front door kicked in, it broke the deadbolt and the chain, yet there was mark on the door. The police even said they didn't know how a solid door was hit hard enough to rip out the dead bolt but not leave a mark. This house got so scary that a guy who had just got out of the Marines refused to stay inside it by himself. These things always seem to happen when me and my friend spend a lot of time together in a place.
When I was a kid I got a kitten. Two days later I had to go to Las Vegas (for family vacation). My dad asked the neighbor to look in on and feed the kitten while we were gone. When we got back the neighbors told us the never saw the kitten and the food/water/litter box was untouched. I found the kitten a few weeks later, it was smashed completely flat and mummified on the floor of my closet. It was smashed flat, stuck to the floor of my closet, yet no blood or guts came out of it! Same house, as a kid, I had two friends that did not know each other run screaming from my house in the middle of the night (separate sleep overs). They both said a small floating red ball chased them.

Our barn is over a 100 years old and I tell you, the things we hear there at times. The other night I was alone doing night chores. It was dark already and I was finishing up with graining the horses. I usually put the grain bucket in front of each stall so I don’t have to carry 6 buckets at once. I had just finished doing that and began graining when I heard a “Hello??!!” in kind of in a demanding voice. I thought it may have been one of my egg customers so I said ”Hold on a sec, I’ll be right there.”. Again, I heard a “Hello????!!!!!” I was getting annoyed and stopped graining, walked down the isle just to see that nobody was there- well, nobody besides one of my mares looking at the grain bucket in front of her stall and annoyed because she couldn’t reach it. I even walked out to the driveway but nobody was there, no tire tracks or anything. We have that happen quite often in our barn. The other day hubby swore he heard me holler at him from the back pastures but I was actually in the house cooking. He came in asking what I wanted and I just looked at him like “What?” . Very funny old barn…
Not sure if it is scary, you kind of get used to it after a while

It probably has to do with the "fight or flight" reaction most people and animals have when they're scared or surprised. I wish I had a spooky story to post here.

With all these stories and my increasing conviction that there are unusual creatures out there, if we ever get a place in the country I am going to carry a loaded gun. If something terrifying shows up (like a screaming gargoyle), I hope my immediate reaction would be to shoot it without a second thought. I'd rather kill a harmless animal than have a live lethal one feasting on my insides.

Peaches, that sounds so utterly demonic. I firmly believe that most of you have really seen things that are unnatural - most of it strikes me as pure evil.

A friend of mine (in fact, one of the leaders at my Bible study) once got "that feeling" - you know, where someone is watching you? He snapped around and saw a guy duck behind a corner. He ran after the guy, rounded the corner and... nothing. There was nowhere for the "guy" to go. It doesn't help that this was at a time when this friend's sisters were doing some ill-advised things. He implied they were involved with witchcraft. Twice he woke up to something physically punching his mattress. The first time he tried to throw his sheet over it - it just sank to the floor, with no one there. The second time he started insulting whoever it was. Later, reading his Bible, he figured out it was probably a bad idea.

I have no doubt, considering the context, that this friend had actually had personal encounters with demonic forces, especially considering his sisters' "ill-advised" activities at the time.

It's weird - the story frightens me, but at the same time I'm not afraid. Out of curiosity, how many others view these things the same way I do?

I definitely believe most of these events have demonic influences (except maybe the ones about Bigfoot creatures... no idea what to think of those). In fact, I have one, but it's pretty short.

I was at a church retreat, and all my friends were still asleep (I set my alarm an hour early by accident and couldn't fall asleep). So I take a shower, and go back to where my friends are sleeping. I decide to read so I camp out outside the bathroom because everything was dark, except right where I was because there was an automatic light on. Well, I'm reading, and all of a sudden this light goes out. It startles me, but not too bad, so I just sit there, thinking.

Well, there's an exit sign that illuminates a doorway that was about four yards away. I don't know why, but I was kind of zoning out and staring at that spot of slightly illuminated space. All of a sudden, a shadow passes over that space of light, and I get the strongest, most irrational sense of fear I have ever experienced. So I run into the bathroom where there is a light source and hide in there 'til everyone wakes up. It was such an irrational fear, I can't make myself believe it was just a shadow. Besides, nothing was moving in the building, and no one was awake.

And my friends had been seeing dark figures for a few weeks before I saw it and experiencing either extreme fear or sadness or depression. And whenever they glanced back, the figure would be gone.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the stories I have read so far.

I had something that always made me feel uneasy at my old house. Would drive the cats nuts too. Lights would go out and you would get that weird feeling down in the basement. The previous owner was a nutcase and put hundreds of nails in each support beam of the house, closed of all basement windows, etc. That place would give me the bejeebies at times. I moved. Don't think it followed me. The voices we hear in teh barn seem of a nicer spirit

That's pretty scary. Not to be rude or anything, but that sounds more like a hallucination. I get them from time to time and I see horrifying stuff like that.

Sometimes I see halluncinations and scary stuff like what greeneggsandham described. I don't feel like giving too much detail, but its hard to tell if you just experienced one or if its real.

But how did they both hallucinate it? This is one of the main stories on this thread that has stuck with me.

This, and the stickman, and the wierd human faced lion thing.....
