four chicks hatched so far:
3 mixed (white) chicks and 1 silver laced polish, all are my own eggs
i have 2 pipped millie d'uccles (purchased) 1 was the 1st to pip of all eggs, that was yesterday. there is no progress on that egg since it pipped
i have several other pips (4 -6 maybe), all of which are my own eggs. they consist of polish, mixed eastereggers, and cuckoo marans
none of my purchased splash/blue silkies have pipped yet. altho i do hear chirping that seems to come from there side of the bator (still hopeful)
if my pips progress, then this is gonna be a pretty good hatch afterall!
especially considering i have never done very well at hatching.
i do not know how long temps were at 107, but it was probably around 5:30 pm when i got home from work and discovered the temp spike. they had not been checked since 6:30 am that morning.
*big sigh of relief*
Lanie, glad you are getting so many pips. Sounds like the silver laced is the darkest so far?
Keep them coming! (And don't forget the photos!)
I didn't to necropsies on my chicks, but the veins were better preserved in the blue eggs, for what it's worth. (Didn't do them any good, though, now did it?)
Are you talking about the darkest egg or the darkest colored chick?? I am curious because my temps ran a little high throughout because my incubator doesn't make small temp changes well. My cream color barred rocks have all pipped and non of my really dark black copper marans have done much at all???
Hi everyone,
Thank You Kedreeva for invting me to the thread.
I have an LG still air...............yesterday my temp had dropped to 93...........LG's are touchy so I moved the control just until the light came on. The next time I checked it was 112...............It was possibly a couple
of hours at that temp.
I am afraid I have cooked them.this is day 15. Anyway will finish and see what if anything happens.
Appreciate having others to sweat it out with.
Good Luck all.

I have done this (my first) hatch with an LG still air too. I think they are notorious for temperature issues. I found it very difficult to make small changes. I only adjusted it until I barely felt the knob turn and that was generally good for a 2 degree change. I never mastered the 1 degree change so I have to say, I never really hit the "sweet spot" temp of 101 for a still air. I was always at 100 or 102. I am getting pips and I have 1 chick so far but the trying to get the temperature just right was a real nuisance and I'm not sure I ever got it right. If I was doing this as more than a hobby, I would invest in a more reliable incubator. However, for a hobby incubator, I think it was great as I am going to get chicks and that was my only goal!
@ Sport: Yeah, our theory here is that the darker the chick the harder a temp spike will hit them, and your data seems to agree since your lighter chicks did better. Lanie's cheeps also seem to follow the pattern, with a lesser hatch rate on the darker eggs. My temps have held really well for this hatch, so I'm hoping my darker cheeps will actually hatch this time.
