Sorry to hear it. Sounds like maybe there was something else that she was hiding from you and the heat may have been "the straw that broke the camels back", so to speak. I know a couple of my breeds are really suffering in this nasty heat. Most especially the Barnevelders with their down undercoat and black top feathers. Poor things.

I just lost one of my Delaware roos to a fox the other day. It took me some time to figure out it was a fox... and before I did... I was clueless as to what happened to him. Wondering makes it worse, don't it? (That is why I went on a CSI hike until I found his feathers and such - another story for another day)

My point is... I hate that you don't know what happened... it only makes you feel like maybe you should have seen something or maybe the others will go too..... You do what you can, when you can. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks. she was a rhode island red and about a year old. I've started watering the run in the morning to try a keep it cool during the day and even more shade.
Short of that not sure what more I can do.

Grundy so sorry you lost a hen.

and to the Tennessee group. Just jump in with both feet - we're all a little crazy.

Sissy, I have been putting ice in the waterers too - - sometimes twice a day if it's hot! Some days I leave out pie pans with iced Gatorade (half-strength, per my avian vet).
We have fans up outside the pens too. It's just nasty here.

jla0499, welcome! The Malays are beautiful.
