Terror of the Barnyard (Video)

No one is being bad to the chick - lighten up it is funny - he is funny because he is ugly and wonderful all at the same time and he does need a name that befits him/her! Fact is fact you cannot change what he is! So embrace it he has beauty in other ways! Drumstick !!!!!!!!! No one is hurting him or emotionally bullying the poor fellow!

I get really Mad when folk tell me I can;t call my Son a Mentally handicapped Spastic because it isn;t PC - I call him lots of stuff doesn;t matter he is still the same! Nice words don;t change what he is - So now when folk say I can;t use those words well I just reclaim them and say Why not cause thats what he is!!!!!!!! - the bird is ugly and deformed and no nice PC words or pretty princess words are going to change that so just say it how it is and get on with giving the fellow a good life! Life will be tough for the fellow he needs a tough name to help him through!

As for the name calling...if he would be used in a theraputic setting (which I think is a super cool idea!), something funny and fitting would be great! It's not poking fun and being cruel...it's bringing a lightheartedness to the situation and creating an icebreaker. I do understand that some can be hurt by things posted on the forums, though. It is tough to interpret meaning and emotion online.

I'd like to make another name suggestion...one that is maybe a little less "mean", although I personally thought all of the prior suggestions were great and fitting. I, too, see a little old man in the second shot. Being that he is a youngster yet, you could name him Benjamin, as in Benjamin Button. He's a baby, but already looks old! As he develops, he might look more as we would expect and less of a geezer...hence, he is aging backward!

How about the name Iron Eye?

When I first saw the picture, I thought; "Of course they are afraid of him, what chicken isn't afraid of an Eagle" The way the picture opens, it cut off the legs and they couldn't be seen until scrolling down. I thought it was an eagle that had be damaged by some kind of environmental issue. This for some reason made me think of that Service Commercial that ran back in the 70s about the Indian who cries seeing all the pollution.

The person who played the Indian went by the name Iron Eyes Cody. He was actually pretty well known for playing American Indian roles. What many don't know, is he was actually 100% Italian. His parents were from Sicily, and he decided at a young age he admired American Indians and wanted to be one, and he became one. It wasn't until near his death that people became aware that he wasn't born an American Indian.

You bird has a noble spirit, despite physical handicaps and aspires to something that at first glance some may think impossible. He may be a chicken in body, but he's an eagle in deportment!

I agree with those who find giving the chick odd names as being light hearted and funny. It isn't meant to be mean or to ridicule the chick. On the contrary, sometimes I think calling something we love with an odd or 'disagreeable' name to be affectionate and bonding. I call my naughty rooster the "spoilt brat" of my flock, but I don't mean any harm or ill intention, I love him still the same.

At the end of the day, I think it is crucial we give others online, the benefit of the doubt, and think a little lighter of all situations. That way, we keep happiness close to heart.

And I agree too, at the end of the day, the chick might get eaten with mash and corn, no matter how he looks, so we should just take things a little easier. (I like that joke/statement that someone posted here). Its funny.

Now your making me feel bad I just culled a chick for having a funny leg and your going around spouting off about that thing

I give it to ya man I wouldn't have the heart to watch him strut around. All I have to say is my god what on earth is that thing!!

I rarely name my chickens but something this ugly at least deserves a name. Someone mentioned Griffon so I am leaning towards that. It was my mom's maiden name. I was actually thinking of using him as a therapy animal. There are certified therapy chickens out there and I think he would be a good one. He NEVER eliminates on or around me and I handle him quite a bit. I am almost certain he is a rooster since he has a really red beginning of a comb. He will never grow wattles. For these who are just skimming over this thread and are disturbed over the length of his lower beak. It is NOT overgrown. It is part of the deformity. I keep trimming it back until I hit blood vessels. I am not not wanting it to shorten it too much because he may end up having more trouble eating and drinking.
