i poked myself with a rusty nail a couple of days ago, and I decided to go in and get a tetanus shot since mine was slightly overdue. Can I still get tetanus since I got it before the shot? Or no.

I don't know. I got a new booster for tetanus because my last one was almost 10 years ago.
I would ask whoever gave the shot. I know if you have a contaminated wound you get a different tetanus shot than if you are just getting a 10 yr. booster.
Don't know if it's true but grew up with the old wives tale that if the wound, especially a puncture wound,bleeds some you won't get tetanus. So whatever I get hurt on I always make it bleed a little. But, still get the shot.
Of course when I was a little kid, somebody said if you have an owie, and a dog licks it, your cut or ??? will heal faster. I tend to think I was really dumb to believe that, since dogs and cats have so much bacteria from their daily activities
