Texas BYC Cafe

My kids were out driving around last night after supper and found a lost or abandoned pit bull puppy. They brought him home. He was pretty clean and very well fed. He spent the night in the dog kennel in the back yard and spent a very sleepless night letting him out to go potty so the neighbors wouldn't get mad.

Nathan sent me a screen shot of where they found him and there was a boarding facility some distance away. He could be from there so as soon as they open I am calling them. If he isn't from there I am having animal control pick him up. Then I am taking a nap!

FYI - rabbit guard wire does not contain puppies. He busted through the fenced area we made for him twice before I put him in the kennel.

Hope everyone has a good week. :)

edit: he didn't escape from the boarding place.

I moved my 3 week old and 8 of my 6 week old bantams out to the coop. I mixed them together in the coop them seem to be getting along. I divided the coop up so the turkeys are on one side and the chicks on the other side. The turkeys sit at the wire and watch the chicks. The chicks do not even look at the turkeys.

Good Morning Everyone!

Harley, you've been so busy!

Laurie, did you take the puppy to the shelter?

We're on countdown with the foster chicks! Less than 2 weeks!

They're doing soooo well, definitely taught me they don't need to be codded TOO much

Hope everyone's doing well!

I had animal control pick him up. They will scan him for a microchip, if he doesn't have one they keep him 3 days then put him up for adoption.

I've been doing yard work this morning. It was too windy to ride my bike.
Pano of my back yard - taken yesterday. :) I love panos. They do make things look a little funny though. The back of my house is flat (ranch style house) not U shaped. ;)

I took this photo of my garden this morning. I have tiny beans! I'll be picking the onions and rutabagas soon. Like tonight maybe. :)

This fall I am going to fix up the edging on the bed and make it so that there are two sections that are both flat instead of sloped. I'll fix the fencing then too. What is the trick to installing chicken wire? I tried so hard to get it pulled tight and straight. Maybe it is a 2 person job....

While building the divider out in the coop and putting the chickens in there I noticed that the turkeys spent a lot of time picking at the water nibblers. So I took a pan out there this morning and filled it with water and they drank from it for almost 15 mins. Like they was starving for water So I guess they don't get enough water from the nibblers. Makes you think maybe they're not working very well for any bird. Has anyone else noticed this?

I've wondered about that. We had a parrot that had both dishes for water and a water bottle for birds. He preferred the dishes and rarely used the water bottle.

I bought the paint for my house today. It's on sale (with a rebate) at Home Depot. 10 gallons of paint, plus 1 quart (trim accent for the porch) = $419.40.

Exterior paint is a lot more expensive than interior paint!

I'm power washing the garage tonight (I hope) and then painting on Saturday. Sunday. And.... Rain is in the forecast for Monday so I am not sure when I will finish. Maybe I will take Friday off too.

WOW!!

Another reason to feed out non-gmo food to your self and chickens.

I wish I could afford to eat organic. So glad for my garden. Now I just need a farm to grow all the other stuff I eat.

I do think it takes them longer to get enough water from the nipples than it does from the flip waterers. But, from what I've noticed, it doesn't matter what you put in the pen, feed, water or treats, they always jump on it like they are starving to death. I do prefer the nipples over the flip waterer. It's easier for me, it stays cleaner and since it takes longer for them to drink, it gives them something to do.

Good paint is always higher, but hopefully it will last longer! Your garden is looking good!

We try to eat the good stuff. My eggs are non-gmo, I try to buy as much organic as I can at the stores/farmers market and we have half of a grass fed steer on order.

Not much going on here. Been working, taking care of my granddaughter and watching the chickens grow.

Anyone ever hear from A1mom? Seems like she disappeared on us. Wonder what happened? :(

I emailed Kimberly. She is doing alright. Got a pretty good report from the doctor - she doesn't have RA. Her hubby was home but I thought he was heading out again soon.
