Hi Lisa:
Thanks for the welcome

I do have chickens- I started with 4 last year- then had to get 2 more. (3 Easter Eggers, a Barred Rock and 2 Silver Laced Wyandotes). They are awesome- lay great eggs.
My husband and daughter started talking about getting a rooster- how fun that would be- SOOOOO- I decided the best way to get a Rooster would be to hatch one-and that is when the madness completely set in.
!!! I ordered 6 Jubilee Orpington eggs- I researched and researched and it seemed that the Jubilee Orpingtons had a reputation of being really sweet Roosters. Well- only 1 hatched so I had to go get it some friends from Quality Feed store in Houston - another barred rock, a buff orpington and an Ameraucana (all pullets).
In the meantime- I ordered MORE eggs- Appenzeller Spitzhauben (because I am originally from Switzerland), Sicilian Buttercups (because my husband's family is Italian) and Ameraucana (because they lay cool eggs). Out of those- 3 buttercups, 1 Spitzhauben and 1 Ameraucana hatched.
Waiting for those to hatch- I ordered more eggs because there was a great deal on Facebook- this time Mottled Orpington, Chocolate Orpington and Chocolate Cuckoo Orpington and some Barred Hollands.
Those are still in the incubator.... Supposed to hatch next week on the last day of school.
My little Jubilee (Fuzzy) appears to be a pullet, so I am trying really hard to resist buying any more eggs just to get a Jubilee Rooster. I think I need to stop for this year......
It has been so much fun- I just love chickens and so does my daughter- she is in Kindergarten. As you can see - we are totally hooked.
I also just started with bees- they are really neat too.
Looking forward to hanging out with you all.
