Someone new joined in the laying!! AND she actually used the nest boxes! It was either my BR or my Buff Orp Eloise. Ava still has some reddening up to do. And Little Hawk's egg is so much bigger than Pearl's! Its only her second one lol

Your dream coop sounds nice! I'm sure he kept thinking the whole time it was going to be more work for him to do! LOLOL I enjoy my "me" time to. My DH is working this weekend, so it's been nice here alone today. Yay for more eggs! Glad she's using the nests. Hopefully the others will join her. Here is what I did today in my coop: I made my grit and oyster shell feeders. i got tired of the chickens always flipping over the grit bowl and getting it all dirty. I knew they would do the same when it came time to put out the oysters shells. The left one is filled with grit and works great. The other one is still empty waiting on an egg to arrive from my current flock. I'll have to check after it rains to make sure rain doesn't get into them. Water does get on the pipes when I water the garden, but not in the grit.

Love the feeders! I made one kind if like that but I haven't put it to use yet. The bucket one I made with 3 holes is working good right now so I made use it for shell like you said. Never thought about that. Guess I figured I would just mix it in to the bucket with their feed. Humm!! Think think think! Lol

Those look great! Were they hard to make?

Not at all. The hardest part is cutting the pvc pipe in half. I had to use a regular hacksaw, and it always cuts crooked. I couldn't find the one I used when I made my buckets. It cost me $30 to make both of them.

Don't you just love the bucket feeders? It's one of the best things I've made for my chickens, along with the horizontal nipple waterer. You can learn so much stuff on this site!!!

YES!! It is the best. fill it up and it lasts a long time.

So I had a scary moment earlier. I went out to the coop and looked into the brooder pen and only saw 9 chicks where there should be 11..

I freeked!! I found where they got out but I looked and looked and looked for those babies. Finally not finding any little baby chick parts, I calmed down and looked around and thought where would I go if was a scared chick. I pulled the nesting case back and there they were huddled together. I pick them up and cuddled them up close.

Now the funny part.... when I put them back in the pen, it looked like the others were running up to them saying you did it.... you did it.... High fiving them, and I could have swore I saw the two babies chest butt together. LOL But at the end of the pen there are some blocks that are different levels. The babies like to stand up on them and look out and from there they can see the nesting case. Having a flash back of the movie Finding Nemo....... I could just see all of them saying I dare someone to go touch the "butt" LOL One of the ones that got out was my Male Cream legbar, I'm not sure Nemo is a proud name for a rooster but that may be his name. LOL

So glad you found them. I would have died! You have to name him Nemo.

I guess I'm waiting on my Faverolles til next Spring.
I can't get Ideal's website to work. I don't want to ship them too far and it ill be to hot to ship soon I guess.
No one close has anything.

Ohio isn't all that far... My Pet Chicken has them and they ship smaller numbers. You would only need to order 4.

Yeah, but they're out f stock for AWHILE...
I almost gave into their realllllly high prices. Lol.
Meyer has a minimum order of 3 as well, which is where I ordered my current girls from, but they don't have Faverolles :/
A lot of places are shipping eggs, but having an incubator would get me into so much trouble lol
I'd rather use a broody.


I'm struggling to find a sitter

Our last one had to stop because she's 6 months pregnant, has to start watching her stepsons, didn't have room in the car, etc.
I'm bummed. She was really good with them.
