I rode my bike 50% more this week than I did last week! I got out twice. lol!

Ok if you look straight down the picture to the house on the other side of the fence, well it went up for sale on sat July 5th. On Sunday there was an open house for 4 hours and in Thursday I got a letter from the hoa saying i can't have chickens.
Everyone, all neighbors, suspect it was the realtor that either heard them or saw them from the upstairs window of the house that's for sale. And turned me in. I guess she thought she needed to sell this house and my chickens would prevent her from doing so.

Well 3doors down, are some new neighbors of about 3 months and they have 8 chickens. No one knows of course, and I went tonight to tell them about the letter and ask if they could keep them for a while until this dies down and the house sells. They were really angry that the hoa would get in our business but said they would absolutely keep them for as long as necessary! They want to make sure we both can keep our chooks!!!!!! So they go over on Sunday.

OMGoodness. I hate it when people get in my business! Good thing you have a good neighbor. I hope the move and all goes well. You will have to do it during the dark of night.... ninja style!!!

I was looking around and found this great idea on The Chicken Chick. It's a cookie tin heater for your chicken water. I think I like that idea better than putting a heater inside my water bucket.

Well that's what sucks about subdivisions is HOA Have you thought about getting a partition to change the by laws of the HOA about chickens. I would get together with the neighbors and Talk about what I wanted as rules like say 10 chickens without any roosters. They have to be kept in the backyard and fenced in where they can not get out. Then I would take it door to door and get all the subdivision to sign it. You would have to make sure that the person signing is the owner who's name the place is in. I would approach it as the chickens are pets just like dogs and that you have the right to have them just like those who have dogs or cats. But don't be pushy about it. If you can get the majority of the home owners to sign then the HOA has no choice but to change the bylaws. I am so thankful I don't live in a subdivision. I been on this place from 1972 long before the subdivisions got out here. They are all around me but I can have all the chickens and anything I want to. Oh I have my problems with them cause they want to force their rules on me but can not lol. The sheriff has been out here a few times to look around and say that he was called for one thing or another. But he thinks it funny cause there is nothing they can do. He said that he will not be back out over any of this that he told the person calling that he could not do anything. He also told them that I was in my rights to have my chickens or any animal I wanted that I am not under any bylaws of any subdivision. I lived in a subdivision in Deer Park and they were a pain on one hand but was good of other things. But I agree and the partition is a great idea. Another idea if you have a hold out of signing, bribe them with eggs!!
As for as your neighbors, I would make sure I had roos that crowed all times of the day. LOL I love to hear my boy crowing. I makes me smile, and if I were you I would enjoy it even more. LOL

That is GREAT! I am so glad they will be safe. I was so close to offering to come get them and keep them for a while for you (I'm near SA, lol). Hope it all works out!

Was out yesterday and went to Hooks texas to look at a wedding venue for my son and it was a great place. I loved it, so I guess it is set. We are going to have a wedding May 16 2015! Now it all begins! LOL

So my girls are eating feathers.... I mean picking them off of each other and eating them. Not chasing one in the air. So I and upping their protein. I make the snack mix that was on the home page, corn, sunflower seed and calf-manna. They loved it. So I am not sure how often to give it to them to boost their protein without over doing it. Any thoughts???

Also I got a shallow tin pan from TS today filled it with water and put a milk jug with frozen with water in it so they can step in it to cool off. They love that too. It is so hot out there and the frozen jugs of water are working well. They will sit around them in the coop and in the shade to cool off.

Now I have to go work on my new water post for out side the coop. Just want to make sure they are getting enough water.

This morning when I was cycling the thought popped into my head (thanks to Kimberly's post about going to the Dark Side) "Come to the Dark Side, we have cookies".

Why go to the dark side for cookies when you can get fudge, cake, pie, fancy bread and savory meals (recipes) here?

My mind wanders a lot when I cycle.

Eloise had a bad peck wound on her ear lobe; I put coconut oil on it and it healed really well. Should I try some on this?
