My flock expects treats every time I step out that door! I give them the leftover scraps from dinner, an apple core, meal worms, etc. It really is up to you as to how often you give them treats. It is definitely a good way to get them to come to you.

Even when I come back from the mailbox, they think I have treats! Yes, they inspect my mail.

Lisa :)
You don't give the apple seeds to them do you? They contain cyanide.

I bet you were tired! Do you have to pull a double often?

Did the roofers show up? Hope they got a lot done. :)

So sorry you were sick, I hope your feeling much better now.

Wow! That's scary how much those two look alike!!

We lost internet service sometime Sunday morning. They finally got it fixed sometime today while I was at work.

We ended up not fixing breakfast this weekend, but I just had breakfast for supper. Look what I got out of 2 of Arnet's eggs:

They sure were good!! I've got about 7 more of those in the fridge. :)
no I rarely do 2 babysitting jobs in one day. The first job was for a couple who were getting re-certified to watch foster children...as in babysitting them while the foster parents go out for a date night. Here in Texas, you can't leave foster kids with just anyone, they have to go through a pretty rigorous training once a year before you can leave them. So, I have some friends who have foster kids and they have friends who have gone through this training and so I was watching their kids, clear as mud????
The evening job was with the sitting company I work for.

Wow I never knew that!

Has that house next to you sold yet?

I processed my 2 turkeys a few weeks ago. I have done chickens , pigs, cows, rabbits and other animals a lot of years ago when I was a lot younger. What would you like to know? I am far form an expert but hope I can help with your questions.

When I went out to my big coop yesterday I found a hope in the back wall and 1 of 46 of the chickens outside. It looks like she jump the 6 foot dividing wall inside the coop and some how pushed through the outside wall where the board was rotten. I guess the older bird chased her and crowded her in the corners here it was rotten. Sure glad that coon did not get her. I have been baiting my tray now for weeks to get that coon but the trap is more like a feeder. He takes the bait but the trap never trips. I guess I am going to have to sit up and try to shoot him. I had put catches on the small coop so he could not get in so I put my silkies in there a few nights ago. I be he found away to reach in from the side where there was 1 1/2 inch gaping the top and push the tin top up just enough to get one of the hens. So that makes 6 bird he has gotten. Well hope everyone is doing good I have been down with my back now for almost a week. It comes and going but I guess that's life. I broke 2 vertebra in my back 11 years ago in a car wreck so I guess it has caught up with me.
back pain is no fun at all. I suffered for a year with 2 crushed vertebrate and finally had the surgery to get them re-inflated. It is much better now, but I still can't do as much as I used to. oh well, old age will catch up to us whether or not we like it!!

Yes!!! They close on Aug 15 but are leasing back until Sept 1. I spoke to my neighbor and since they will do a final walk through the day before they move in, we are waiting until Sept 2 to move the chickens back. I go everyday to see them. and get the eggs. and give them treats. etc.

Try smearing peanut butter on the trip thing and adding some cat food or corn to it. He will have no choice but to come in to eat. He should trip it while eating then.

Must have been still suffering the side effects from being sick over the weekend. :) That's how my kids made butter in school. I think the teacher had them do that to make them all tired. ;) You can make butter in the mixer too. May work better that way. My friend did that by accident once when we were 18.

My sinus headache from Saturday is finally gone today. Woke up with it though. Went out for a ride in the 90% humidity (yuck!) and it is now gone. It was so good to be out riding again. I only go out once last week... I hope I can get out a few more times this week.

I have a question.... How often do you give your birds treats?
morning and night before they moved and now, just once a day, sometimes only every other day. Although I go over every day, I don't always have treats. It is hard to carry food, treats, etc. But they let me know it if I don't show up with treats. THEY ARE LOUD!

Yeah!

I put my apple cores in the food processor. Apples are chopped up very fine (seed and all).

Lisa :)
So the cyanide in the seeds doesn't bother them? Interesting.....

My galette was so good tonight! Letting the tomatoes and basil sit for a few hours makes a big difference in the flavor. So did adding more bacon. :) It was so good Trevor ate 2 big pieces - half of it. He also had 2 pieces of my carrot cake - one before supper and one after, plus some of the biscuits I baked last night. He was very full when he left. :) I like to feed him like that. I don't think he eats enough. He doesn't usually snack and doesn't usually eat that much at a meal, although I think he is eating a better amount now. He is 6'2" and only weighs about 150 pounds (I think - he might be up to 160 now). Anyways.... the house smells amazing right now. :)

I guess what method you use?
I really want to use the cone/ bleed out method, but i'm worried I'll miss the artery and cause a little too much misery.
There's a guy I found to do them  closer but he has a 25 bird minimum and that's not happening yet! lol
So I'll probably end up doing them myself. Hubbs said he won't do it lol

Take care of that back!

:gig

I used the cone/bleed out method on the turkeys. I know what you mean about worrying about not cutting them the right way but let me say that it would be hard not to cut the artery there is not much there so when you cut you should hit it easy. When I did the 1st turkey I was worried that I would miss so I did not cut deep enough but I noticed right off that he was not bleeding very fast and so I made a deeper cut. The 2nd one was a lot easier cause I knew I had to cut deeper. You just have to get your mind around doing it and not worry. Once you get your mind set to just do it you will be able to get threw the 1st one then the rest will be easy.

Well I got my 1st coon last night. I got up to check the trap at 2 am and found the coon in the trap so I will put him out of my misery a little later when the sun is up so I can see better. Don't want to miss him and have to shoot him more then 1 time if I don't have to. He has eaten 6 of my chickens already sure glad I got the trap to work this time. Thanks Ms Jellybean for the peanut butter advice. I put the peanut butter on a plate and put chicken feed on the peanut butter. I also greased the moving parts of the trap I think that was more of the problem then anything.
