Slowly I am turning my chicks that reach 2-4 mos old loose, a group of 4-7 at a time. I normally come to the ranch every 3-4 days. Each time I come, I am amazed of their growth after I turn them loose. One more thing, no matter how long they have been on the yard, they still walk together in their group. This proves the chicken has their own organization, with their own rule and leader. Something that human beings may want to learn from them.

Well, one more... about the language, when I travel to a new country, it takes about 2-3 mos to develop a niche to understand some of their words. However, raising these birds for years, imitating their sounds, their crowing ... still we don't know how to speak their language yet. I wish we can truly speak their language so we can tell them to "come here", "get back to your cage", or more important "don't eat your eggs", or "beware of coyotes" .... can anyone here do that yet??
I have my own organization...I am the dictator and leader. I am the MOTHER!

So you have little Debbie do the dishes, tiny John to cut the grass and you , as the supervisor, will monitor the entire operation via your TV camera and the soap operation. Right?

I thought you were the Chicken Whisperer???

Hung, I was serious when I asked if you had a job interview the other day. Ken interviewed someone with the name "Hung Nguyen'. (Ken said he pronounced the last name 'Wing') I thought wouldn't that be cool if it was you!!!

Lisa :)
Got it now. Actually I am about to have a phone interview, so in 20' I will have to dress up for the kill.

I normally tell people to pronounce my last name as "Win". This went back a long way when I worked for Lockheed Martin in New Orleans NASA facility. My company had a coed volleyball league. As a young man, I was excited and wanted to play. Two more guys in my dept liked the idea and told me to enter our team. Well, as the captain, I went around to recruit more players... and my god, many men wanted to have fun and joined my new team... but there were no women as all the female athletes were somehow on the existing teams already. Being desperate, I went to another company that worked in the same NASA campus and, voila, I ran to a Vietnamese girl and she agreed to join, my first draft choice ... you can say. She also told me that she could spread the words to her co-workers as many of them were schoolmates and were on a highschool volleyball team. By the afternoon, my rosters had 5 female players with 4 of them having the same last name Nguyen. I completed my roster and entered the team as "The NGUYENers". Now, the entire league was quick to learn of a new way to spell Winners.

Went to grab some feed today, and there were no chicks to tempt me! (Unlike Hung and his volleyball story

They are getting in some EEs, Buff Bramas, and Dominiques, and RIR next Thursday though.
Luckily none of those are really on my list!

Keep your fingers crossed for me please! I REALLY need to find a decent sitter..I didn't think it would be so hard.

Have you called that place there are commercials for? Can't think of the name but you can hire sitters and nannies through them.

I found some beans I want to try next year. They sound good.

I want to make these. There is a dairy free version of sweetened condensed milk listed too!!! She has some good recipes on her site.

I'm leaning towards getting a puppy more than not. The last two litters Gill has had haven't had any sable pups so this may be my only chance for a bit. I wish I could do both chicks and a puppy. I don't see that mix working well though.
I'd like to try those beans too! With the striping, it would be a lot easier finding them than the solid green ones. I am always missing some beans on the vine.

The almond joys look yummy! By using coconut milk and monk fruit for sweetness, I could totally do that!

What kind of puppy are you thinking of getting?

In two days I only got 2 eggs, from 4 layers. UGH
How old are your hens? Mine have just started laying, and I got 12 eggs yesterday. Some days I get less, but they are doing pretty good for just starting.

Hope you find a sitter soon. It's really hard to find someone you trust.

We got about an inch of rain which was really needed. It was really cool for the first of August! I can't wait for fall to get here. :)

I found a good recipe for no cook tomato sauce. I haven't tried it, since I don't eat pasta, but sounds really good.

I got an even dozen eggs yesterday. That's the most I've gotten so far. I still have 3 more that haven't started laying. I have one that may never lay. She is the smallest and it may take her a while to get big enough. Her comb is just now starting to grow, but hasn't turned pink yet.

I got these a couple of days ago:

I thought the one on the left was a rock. I was digging around in the nest shavings and found it. I'm thinking of blowing it out and keeping it, it's so little! lol

I would!!!

If only we were closer!

I lost sweet Pearl today :(
My dad came up and I put the dogs in the back while I picked up. In a the bustle and bustle of getting us all out the door, I forgot to bring them back in. Cash is still little and he has lab in him...Josh stopped me as I was going to check on them. He cleaned up...but there are still feathers everywhere. I'm keeping a few, and I have her last egg saved back, to blow out. I'm going to make a little shadow box for her
