Texas

I know its all part of it! Spending the day today fortifying the big coup! Wish me luck!!!! That chainlink should work much better than the chicken wire....thats on me, not the dogs

So there was definate K9 interferance today. Several chicks dead inside the run....no way of knowing which one but i shouldnt have had them in the yard with the dogs....live and learn, poor guys!

I have a dzn silkie eggs due to hatch in about 2 weeks and told the lady that if take whatever hatches so i have that on the way, plus my 5 6wkers....and im gonna look for some older birds as well now. Might get a batch of some chicks again in the fall so i can sort out this security thing....
So sorry about the fuzzy butts. Was visiting with a friend at Zumba yesterday who has been the fresh egg supplier for the class. She is out in Grimes County and when she setup her coop her husband bet her he could trap a possum or a coon every night for 7 days straight. Not only did that prove true he got a skunk too. She also lost part of her flock to a dog recently.

I came home today and found the boardwalk awning had been "completed"...they had a ton of wood on top of it holding it while the silicon sets, etc....so photos tomorrow of it all. But, here's what it looks like when you stand out front and look in:

That's the finished nesting boxed on the right side, there - I'll get photos of the inside when they are totally done, too.

We haven't finished the interior, yet. We still have all the roosts to put in - but, we do have a temporary "baby" roost in the coop that they are using quite a bit. They love to find the sunny spots and get comfy, too - regardless of if that means laying on the food platform or not

Thankfully, they only do that when the food's been cleaned up for the day.

Here's a peek through the window:

And, a closer view of the babies enjoying their roost:

The silver feeder is actually full of scratch. The red, long feeder and the yellow thing one of 'em is sprawled on top of is where their FF goes; and, they just recently upgraded to a hanging waterer. **sniffles** My babies are growing up. I'm so proud of how the big keets take care of everyone and show them how things are done. I've always heard what horrible "parents" they were and how bad an idea it was to mix them; but, so far, they've been absolutely delightful.

I'm getting really excited - the end is in site for construction on The Eggcelsior and Mike's already chomping at the bit to get started on The Broken Yolk....he's talking about putting a "bar" in there (ie: bar shaped roost) with a mirror mounted into the wall for them to admire themselves in...and a battery operated MP3 player playing old time music. He's funny and I love him dearly for it.

I'll be sure to let him know you said so. I doubt he'd be willing to sell any of the big coops - though they are built portable in case we ever decide to sell this place and upsize. He enjoys them too much. I came home yesterday to find him and the eldest sitting in some chairs, drinking beers and watching the chicks and keets run around the inside of the coop. Chick TV at its finest

Thanks :) We live in a 'hoity toity' RE zoned area ((houses are required to be no less than 50% masonry, to give you an idea - it's a deed restriction, not an HoA)). So, when I wanted to start breeding chickens, the last thing I wanted to deal with was my neighbours throwing a fuss. So, this was the idea - all our neighbours will see will be the front...the runs go back to the river and then we have a bluff on the other side - so, no one is peeping around there unless they have issues.

I'm sorry for your loss Cockle Dood. Hopefully everything will be much better with the improved coop.

Kilsharion, your coops are awesome. Makes me really want to get started on mine. Unfortunately financing is in my way for a little bit.

You'll have to click on it to see the details but this is what I do in my spare time. Lol. I lost all my previous information due to a certain someone's kid taking my stick drive and stomping all over it.

ETA I put a comment on it listing their ages.

Hi Texans, I really need your help on this one, I know that Texas is a big state, but by chance do any of you know might know who Bruce and Sharon are?, who raises butler bobwhite quail? I bought some eggs from them on eBay last year(September 2012) and have still not gotten my eggs, which I no longer need them due to having no more incubator and getting out of the hobby temporally. I just want a refund that is all. I've tried contacting them through eBay,but it says they are no longer a register member. The last time I could get in contact with them was November 2012 and haven't been able to since then, they only contacted me through eBay. What they told me what was delaying the egg then was that their lighting set up went out due to a storm and that their regular store is no longer carrying their normal feed so it would be till next spring(2013) Feb or Mar before they will have my replacement eggs ready. I did tell them to send it in March but it's now April and no eggs or contact( mind you I don't have their personal email for contacting). They had over 1000's of happy customer feedback, that's why I went with them. So If by chance anyone living in Texas might know who Bruce and Sharon is, PLEASE pass on this message on to them that they contact me before they decide to send the eggs. I don't want/need the eggs anymore just a REFUND.
My contact email is [email protected]

Thank you so much if anyone can help!

Did you pay through Paypal?

Maybe contact them or eBay for the seller's private info (name, address and phone number)

It's probably too late to file a claim through Paypal or eBay.. but the fact that they are no longer a registered member of eBay sends up red flags for me
