FeatherD.Friend :

Hey guys,

Im wanting to start selling my surlpus at the local farmers market, are there any rules and regs I need to be aware of?

Legally, you need your NPIP to sell, specifically away from your home. Though i don't know how well this is ever enforced.

I think I remember my research showing that as long as you are selling directly to the end customer and keeping the eggs at the right temperature, you don't need a permit

I THINK as long as you don't try to sell them as "jumbo" or "large" or whatever, you don't have to do anything special-otherwise, you have to go through the Dept. of Weights and Measures.

When i read this, i thought you were saying you wanted to sell your surplus chickens. I now realize you probably meant eggs. Sorry. You don't need NPIP to sell eggs that i know of.

Check with whomever puts on the farmer's market for their rules and regulations. Each town is different....

You will still need to check with your city (farmer's market) to see if you need a health permit, pay a space fee, etc. I suggest going to the market first and asking some of the vendors. They can give you some good information and contacts if you need them.

No I will be selling My chickens!

Hey everyone, I'm out here in Cut-N-Shoot and lost most of my flock in the fall when I decided to revamp my pen, now going back to the old small one and trying to rebuild my flock. If anyone has eggs or birds (breed and species not very important) I would love to know. I just like having birds around and fresh eggs. Thanks all:D

BYC user Bedste lives near you. I don't know if she subscribes to this topic, so i emailed your post to her. I live out in Coldspring, not too far from you. If you want to start with chicks, i'm sure Bedste can help you. She's an incubating addict.
