Hi Guys! I need help. I have a speckled sussex who I think is egg-bound. Precious is about 4 years old. She came walking out of the coop very slow and the tail is down. I checked the vent and it is 'poofing', but the area is not red or runny. I checked inside the vent, but couldn't feel anything. I have given her a warm soak and she is now in my sun room.

I was planning on giving her some electrolytes and maybe yogurt. Please let me know what else I can do or check for.

Little Wing, I am glad you haven't and hope you never will.

Fowlmouthgirls, I read the article and I am puzzled now. Precious' comb and wattle are bright red. She is in her box, very alert. She has eaten a bit of apple, yogurt, and is drinking water w/electrolyte and vitamins added. She talks to me every time I check on her.

She loved the warm water. I will leave her in the box for the day and see what happens. I plan on giving her another warm bath in a bit. I am hoping I see an egg real soon.

I appreciate the help!

Maybe she is laying a big one! Or perhaps she's starting to have a prolapse. I'm just going by what I've read, my girls aren't laying yet so I don't have any experience with it. I was hoping that would help you

Way behind on reading... Hope everyone is well! Took a break from hatching but it didn't last long... Finally found some more dark Marans eggs and hatched out several yellow legged birds... So seems Marans for me are going to be a long process. But if all goes as planned I'll have my lavender Ameraucana going in the Fall. Little Wing that 1 lav I got from your eggs is still looking like a pullet. If the current guesses hold out, I'll have 3 lav pullets, 1 blk split pullet (that thinks she's a parrot) and 2 lav cockerels.

And woo hoo I am now jobless! Gave notice almost 3 months ago, found my own replacement...

Yin - I haven't talked to Melissa in a while. She hasn't been on here, or answered my emails/phone calls. I really hope she is ok My starting flock came from her. Unfortuantly, coon got my beautiful BR from her. I had to put down my Amercauna sunday from her. So all I have left from her is a gorgeous SS and a RIR. I have 3 1 yr old hens who I picked up from a kid in Converse. 1 RIR, SLW, and EE. I have a RIR pullet who just started laying about 2 weeks ago. I believe my SLW is the other who is laying. I got a pullet sized dark brown egg, assuming from the RIR, and a light cream colored speckled egg, I assume is from the SLW. The SS and my little game bantam mix are just at POL, but the SS still has a light colored comb. I've got 4 (maybe 5) of the 6 birds that should be laying. But I get 1-2 eggs day, same 2 birds though lol.

I need to get a new picture of my SS. I think she's gorgeous, maybe even show quality. Though, her tail to me a bit off. But I don't know anything about showing lol.
