Thanks I I'm trying hard to get really sound and breed standard birds it had because the people that have the good one don't like to let go of them
Lets see some side pictures (including legs) of the Wyandottes. And a close up of the head showing the comb and wattles.OK ya'll... this noob has tried to figure all this out for 4 weeks now and I am so stinking confused! I honestly have no idea what to look for and hours and hours of looking at photos on here isn't helping at ALL!I THINK I have 2 GLW, 2 EE, and a BR... what am I looking for as far as sexing them goes? I swear they are changing daily! Does it differ from breed? I am noticing one of the GLW and one EE are slower at developing adult head feathers.. is this a sign at all? My EE 'combs' are totally different shaped and they both seem to have one.. although they both seem pale-ish to me one is def more bossier in personality than the others. That same one cries when it's separated from the others even if for a minute! One of the GLW's seems to have a brighter colored comb than the other.. but the one that isn't showing has a real dark head whereas the other is light.. So does head color matter? Tails all look the same to me.. I tried to figure out what everyone is talking about with the feathers and it just isn't sinking in
Carrying the tail, tail feathers, ect.. even on the teen chicks (ones we are chicken sitting) I just can't get it! I THOUGHT one of the 'teen' chicks was a roo.. then I posted on a thread and was told it looks like a pullet!![]()
They won't lay or crow until around 20-24 weeks, right? Only reason I am worrying so much about this is IF I end up with more than one roo, I want to get more pullets (babies) soon so they can run together with a smooth transition... right? We won't be culling these and I def don't want 5 roos and 5 hens! I have seen what that does![]()
I know, I know.. everyone says to wait it out and I will know.. but I should be able to at least figure out a 3-4 month old mix! Starting to question if I will ever get this!
ANY tips you can give me on what to look for?
Thanks hun.. Here are some that I have already posted.. if you need more I can take some in the morning. I will outside so I can get good lighting! All they wanted to do tonight was sit on my 11 yr old's head and back so I only got tail shots in. I prob don't have good pics of their legs as I didn't know to even look at them? I TOTALLY love these two! They are the most friendliest of the 5!Lets see some side pictures (including legs) of the Wyandottes. And a close up of the head showing the comb and wattles.
Do you have the APA Standard of Perfection book? Get that book, it will help you a lot. I look for type (shape) of my birds first then I consider the rest. I am super picky about tails where others are not. I will only keep birds that are wide from front to back. The first thing is no bird is perfect they all have faults of some sort, some faults are worse and harder to fix though. Know the SOP for your breed and be honest with your self about what your bird/s need to improve. I am hard on my birds and cull hard. The culls I sold last year were better (type wise) than a lot of what people use for breeding imo. People get side tracked by color. I look at my birds in black/white pictures to help me see shape.I have foley and bill Braden lines and some from Ruth Caron
I am pretty sure both (GLW) are cockerels. Thanks hun.. Here are some that I have already posted.. if you need more I can take some in the morning. I will outside so I can get good lighting! This is the one that has REALLY got to me! I swear the black and white one looks like a roo! They are just mixed (I have no idea what breed of chickens he has) if that matters but of course with all these roosters running around they aren't crowing so I am really lost as to trying to figure this out!
