lol sigh... guess it's off to read more on how to tell the difference.. that and make TWO coops instead of just one! My luck I will end up with all roos!Texasmja has a 6th sense when it comes to wyandottes...i think she cal look at an egg and tell thr sex
Yes, your Wyandottes and EE's will have different combs. I had a little Wyandotte cockerel and could tell for sure at about a month old that he was a male. It can be harder to tell with Wyandottes if you aren't really familiar with the breed. Or at least in my opinion. Are you just wanting to know their sex or are you interested in all the SOP stuff? Some better pictures of their combs from the side and straight on would probably helpOK ya'll... this noob has tried to figure all this out for 4 weeks now and I am so stinking confused! I honestly have no idea what to look for and hours and hours of looking at photos on here isn't helping at ALL!I THINK I have 2 GLW, 2 EE, and a BR... what am I looking for as far as sexing them goes? I swear they are changing daily! Does it differ from breed? I am noticing one of the GLW and one EE are slower at developing adult head feathers.. is this a sign at all? My EE 'combs' are totally different shaped and they both seem to have one.. although they both seem pale-ish to me one is def more bossier in personality than the others. That same one cries when it's separated from the others even if for a minute! One of the GLW's seems to have a brighter colored comb than the other.. but the one that isn't showing has a real dark head whereas the other is light.. So does head color matter? Tails all look the same to me.. I tried to figure out what everyone is talking about with the feathers and it just isn't sinking in![]()
Carrying the tail, tail feathers, ect.. even on the teen chicks (ones we are chicken sitting) I just can't get it! I THOUGHT one of the 'teen' chicks was a roo.. then I posted on a thread and was told it looks like a pullet! They won't lay or crow until around 20-24 weeks, right? Only reason I am worrying so much about this is IF I end up with more than one roo, I want to get more pullets (babies) soon so they can run together with a smooth transition... right? We won't be culling these and I def don't want 5 roos and 5 hens! I have seen what that does
I know, I know.. everyone says to wait it out and I will know.. but I should be able to at least figure out a 3-4 month old mix! Starting to question if I will ever get this! ANY tips you can give me on what to look for?
Just the sexes... these are our first so right now not interested in SOP.. they are just part of the family.. and of course eggs are goodYes, your Wyandottes and EE's will have different combs. Oh, the GLW don't seem to have a popping up comb.. they both seem the same but different colors.. but my two EE's are totally different! One is what I THINK is called a pea and the other has a single comb (think I have the names right) I will take some better pics todayYes, your Wyandottes and EE's will have different combs. When I looked at the picture of Gypsy I noticed that the comb was bumpy, that happens on the male chicks when their combs start growing. Also males have wider combs than pullets.Oh dear! Ok.. help me understand what made you decide that?
