A lady drove up several days ago with these 10 chicks, she said a friend of ours told her we might take them off her hands

Of course we did. She only had them 3 days, feeding them tamales

She got them from a friend that said her hens laid large brown eggs, thats all I know about what they may be. Any guesses as to what breed or crossbreds?

Cubalaya cross, maybe?

Has anyone bought from M & T farms in Lytle?

I have bought from them...really friendly couple and very knowledgeable on all of their stock. I bought my Muscovy ducks and some chicks from them. They are very honest too! I would recommend them.

I'm glad you saw this. I was hoping someone would have. I maybe driving down there Sunday. Gotta swing a right into castroville, stop at 1604 & potranco, then figured since I was there, go by and see. Only realitively close breeders for welsummers. Did you think they are quality bred or more hatchery type?

I think that some of his stock comes from hatchery, based on what he describes on the website. I know he has a bator where he hatches some of his own stock too. Feel free to give them a call. I am like you...I really want to stay away from hatchery based on all that I have read. Good luck!

Thanks price wise they are comparable to quality bred versus hatchery. So I'm hoping to see some nicer birds.

Sure thing... I had bought some very nice looking SLW chicks from him, however, one of my dogs had them for breakfast one early morning...so all I have left now are my Muscovy. Like you, I have had the hardest time finding some "heritage quality" SLWs, and I have not been able to find Columbian dottes either...so I may go up to Spring Branch and get some white ones i saw up there.
