well right, aside from drinking...ive never raised ducks before and want to one day.....just that one day is alot further along if i NEED a pond...if i can get away with a kiddie pool...might be a little sooner

Kiddie pools work great! All ducks will get in water (I mean if there is a bucket... They will climb in if you don't give them another option) they have to be able to dunk their heads under water to clean their face and eyes. But like I said kiddie pools work great. That's what I have for my crew.

The wounded one is doing a bit better. She limps when she walks but at least now she's moving around. No blood, no open wounds, just a lot of missing feathers and some scratches so maybe it's not as bad as I thought.

chickens are pretty resilient.. just give her some time

I gave her a carton of yogurt, she ate a few bites worth. Poor thing is covered in fire ants, the spot she hid was infested with them. I washed her off with warm water but can't get them all.

I'm not really sure what to do about the fire ants other than washing them off.. did you use just plain water? I would try adding a bit of the original blue Dawn dish soap to the wash water.. I know it works on fleas.. never tried it on fire ants though..

if sevin dust worked on them then I would suggest a good dose of that..

If they are still on her, couldn't you dunk everything but her head in a bucket of water of something? I mean anything to get them off

That's what I did but I guess they survived. She went limp and almost went under water. I will have to go to the store for the dawn, I will try it tomorrow morning.

I had a chicken beat up by a dog this year. I found it crumpled and twisted in a pile. I was sure it was badly broken and mutilated but it wasn't. He had small punctures into his pelvis, bad bruising on a wing. He was a mess. I can't remember exactly what my avian vet recommended--shock was the big problem. Their gut shuts down from the shock, so don't feed. Offer electrolytes. My chicken survived just fine. Good luck.
