Texas

I had a coon pull a full sized BR through a 3 in gap in a door. My coop door bows out when it's wet. And it had been raining. I can't fit a fist in the gap at the bottom, but that's where he pulled her through :(

All they need are holes big enough to put their hands thru and a bird close enough to grab. They can climb like a monkey... And yes very smart too. We see so many I wonder if someone that rehabs them has been releasing out here. We used to never see them around here, now we have to run them off every night. When that doesn't work, I have to thin them out a bit...

Thanks folks. Ground is hard, so can't identify tracks. Gotta be a coon though. I raised a couple of orphan coon years ago. They are very smart. They will watch you close a cage or pen and then stick their paw out and try to unlock it. If they get in my pullets it will be the battle of San Jacinto all over again. I am retired and do not mind sitting up all night if it continues. Thought about making a coon skin cap but decided it would not be any good with that many holes in it! We have seen a bobcat in the area, but I think it would have gone over the fence with it and not pulled it through. Could have declared that one of the cockerels this morning did not crow but hollered save me.

A friend sent me this because our horse went down last Friday night because of cyanide in the Johnson grass he ate. This is scary. Has anyone seen the happening?

When a herd of cattle suddenly died in Central Texas investigators were dispatched to the scene to investigate and now preliminary test results are blaming the animals deaths on the genetically modified grass the cows were consuming.
The cows which were grazing on an 80-acre patch owned by Jerry Abel in Elgin, Texas died several weeks ago.
Abel tells CBS Station KEYE that the grass should have been perfect since it had “a lot of leaf, it’s good grass, tested high for protein – it should have been perfect.”

The grass was a form of Bermuda known as Tifton 85 and it has been around for 15 years on the Abel farm. Unfortunately something went horribly wrong several weeks ago and according to Abel:
“When our trainer first heard the bellowing, he thought our pregnant heifer may be having a calf or something. But when he got down here, virtually all of the steers and heifers were on the ground. Some were already dead, and the others were already in convulsions.”
It turns out that the grass for some unknown reason began producing cyanide gas which is poisonous to cattle.
Other farms quickly began testing their fields and while no other cattle deaths have been reported at least several farmers found toxic cyanide in their Tifton 85 grass.
According to the Examiner the grass which has suffered from drought conditions for the last several years is now being dissected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to see if some type of strange mutation may have occurred.
Update: The original report we received stated that the grass was a GMO version of Tifton 85. In fact it was a hybridized version of the product.

I haven't heard of anything around here about it; but it's probably just a matter of time before more reports start rolling in.

Yes, it is in Elgin. I think there is some peeps on this thread that live in Elgin. We got an order a few months ago from Monsanto and we refunded the money and sent an email that we are family run and do not believe in their ethics. Grrrr makes my blood boil. They are killing the planet, children, and animals. Not to mention our bees and folks just continue to eat happy meals and watch T.V. I am sorry those cows suffered but hopefully that family learned something.

Agree! It's one of those subjects that really brings the ranting and raving out of me! We were living in Hutto when this happened and I remember it well. They are killing us off and we are allowing them too! Ok.. all I am going to say on the subject. I am sooo sorry about your horse!

made some FF last night and thought it wouldn't be enough for them all. Feed them this morning and there is still some left in their feeders, and in the bucket that I made it in! Going to have to do it more often.... I just used the last little bit in the feed tub now I have to mix some more!

Hey Sarge I haven't seen you on here in a good while, what you been up too?
