Yes, I had a Brody like that this year too!
Maybe it was the terrible heat and they thought it was the end of the world and they needed to repopulate it! LOL
Yes, I really do enjoy my turkeys too. We've had red bourbons and royal palms in the past.
I have a turkey hen sitting on eggs right now. Nothing shy about them here. This year I've tried to change everything over to Rio Grandes. They are bigger birds and I like the multi colored sheen to their feathers. They follow us around like dogs!
Very awesome! I had a hen that was Broody but for whatever reason she isn't anymore. All the eggs are still fertilized, but she just doesn't set anymore. Oh well, we are going to buy an incubator anyway.

Back several years ago we had a fun time making costumes for our chickens. A few people thought that meant dressing the chicken up in actual clothes and that was great for another laugh....for two reasons. But I thought you all would enjoy my dearly departed JG in his swimwear!

...okay, back outside again.

This is SO not chicken related, but for anyone that hasn't heard the story about Fred Stobaugh and the song he wrote for his wife, please google "Sweet Lorraine." One of the most heart-warming stories ever. Oh - and keep a box of tissues handy.

so happy for you! I couldn't do it either!
I am happy to report that I am now a hundred pounds lighter! lol If you ever need to get rid of some roos with chance for adoption, just PM me and I will give you his info. I think I am going to go set some eggs. No more roo fear!

When I have to kill one someday I will. Today was not that day. I hope some day that I will learn to grow a pair and make it happen, but for now I am thankful that someone else is out there to help people like me.

I saved some baby pheasants from my dogs when I was little. I accidently sat on one and the skin on its head came off but it was still alive. It was awful and I was at home alone. I knew I had to do something to put it out of the pain that I had caused. I took it outside and dropped a huge rock on it. I have never in all these years that have gone by gotten over that. I have thought long and hard trying to "get over it and just do it" but so far no luck.

I think we all have talents that are different and maybe someday I can add that to my resume.

I heard part of if on Bobby Bones this morning. Yes, I needed tissues, and that was just hearing the back story and a short part of the song!

We all want to feel love like that. I wondered if his wife felt it when she was alive or if he wished he would have expressed it more when she was.... Since I didn't hear the whole song, does he address it within the song?

Italia - I sure hope your roos find a good home. You must really trust that guy. Your pheasant story broke my heart! What a tough thing for a young person to do. It sounds like you did the best that you could do, under the circumstances.

I have sooo much trouble culling birds and I need to get better at it both technique and emotionally speaking.

The mindset of believing that you deserve something you did not earn is called "Entitlement minded". The mindset that justifies a person to aggressively take that which they believe they deserve but did not earn is called, "Arrogant Entitlement". Unfortunately, this is a mindset that is growing by leaps and bounds in this country as a result of the leaders constantly preaching that the rich should be forced to pay more of their hard earned money so it can be given to those who did nothing to earn it. Oh that our country could return to the values that made it great and the philosophies of Abraham Lincoln.

"The strongest bond of human sympathy, outside of the family relation, should be one uniting all working people, of all nations, and tongues, and kindreds. Nor should this lead to a war upon property, or the owners of property. Property is the fruit of labor ---property is desirable --- --- is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich, shows that others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise. Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another; but let him labor diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built."
Very well said.
