Hi Beth:

Thanks for the note. I'm building a place pritty much myself at the end of FM1514 in the lakeview Hills Subdivision. Been at it 9 years. Maybe it will be mostly finished in 2011. Wife and I plan to move in if/when it's finished. I'm retired and wife still works part time. The house is my job these days. hopefully I'll have time for building a coop this spring.

OK, sounds good. My address is 411 and halfway around the circle. I'm usually there most days and mainly in the afternoons. I'm happy to hear others are interested in Chickens in/near Coldspring. I think I will keep piece in the neighborhood and just have 6 and no rooster!

Welcome Lee...

I wish I had done much more learning before I got started... I would have done so many things differently. You are really wise to start thinking and planning now... run your ideas past these folks and ask for advise and feedback... Everyone on here has been so helpful and remembers what it was like to get started and know nothing!

Things I didn't think about...
HOT weather -- I located my coop out in the open and the coop and run got so hot in the summer ... likewise, the winter winds and rain are worse out in the open...
I only have 3 hens and still wish I had a bigger coop and I wish it was insulated!
I gave away my roosters and I wish I had kept one ... if they are legal in your area, Roos are just awesome and so much more fun to watch than just hens
waterers, feeders, nesting boxes... veternarians... medicines ... worming...
My list is endless, but you get the idea....

I think you should go to the show also... I think this is supposed to be a pretty good size show and we don't have too many big shows in this area.
