I had a German Shepherd Dog in my teens and twenties. He was the best dog I've ever had. Unbelievable dog. I would have one in a heart beat if I was confident I didn't have to deal with bad joints and temperaments. Breeders have so distorted GSDs--they've turned them into cripples. When I was really active showing dogs, the GSDs were also really spooky with horrible temperaments. I also hate the amount of shedding they do. Their hair just never stops coming out. I'll have a look at them again. A good one is the best dog ever. Maybe one from a rescue--at least I would know if it were crippled or not.

My breeder has not messed with bloodlines that way. In fact her dogs are mostly DDR dogs and have nice straight backs. No sloping at all. Her dogs look very much like the WW2 GSD's did. Very healthy and awesome temperaments. Yes, the do shed a ton! I bought a Furminator to help with that.

Check Gillian's site out. She should have puppies in the spring. My girl's mother is Liesl. She is on the puppies page. Gill was hoping for one last litter from her, but she didn't get pregnant. I was hoping too. I want another puppy. In my future plans.


Isn't she gorgeous? My son took this photo with his friend (cropped her out) when he was doing an ad for Garmin for school. I see her mama's eyes and expressions in her face. I think we need a puppy this spring, not next fall.

There is no better dog than a good GSD. None. I had completely discounted them because of all the spooky cripples I saw in my decades of showing and breeding dogs.

I totally agree with you on no better dog. I won't own anything else. I tried a Lab once. Big mistake.

This is her favourite ball. It is the only kind she can't destroy. She loves it and it is the first things she gets when she goes outside. She will fetch until your arm falls off.

How is your chicken today?

Well she's not better...worse if I can gauge correctly. I'm taking her to a friends boyfriend tonight when he gets home to see if he has any ideas. Not sure how much of a chicken person he is but he does have chickens. So we will see. Every time I go in the den I think I will find her dead. I just hope she hangs on. Ugh. This is not a fun time

The lady selling it is a jeweler and can shorten it, but 2 inches is too much I think.

Hmm.... I just had a look see at the bracelet again. It says it is 1.5 inches wide. To shorten it to 6 inches I think only one horse would need to come off.

I asked her about it.... I'm not going to get it. More because I have other things I need to spend my money on. I really do like it though.

Whoops!! I typed the measurements in wrong...it's 1/2" wide....sorry about that ! If you are still interested though I would have to take off 2 horse links and add approx 2 jump rings to make it 6". It leaves you with to extra links so make into something else...earrings maybe? Let me know your thoughts and we'll go from there!​

I am an Aussie mom. I've had them all of my46 yrs. they are energetic people pleaders that are intensely bonded to their person. My Aussie sometimes pushes my bantams that hang out in the back corner of 1/2 acre toward me. He herds but does not hurt.

I'm so sorry. Have you tried an epsom salt bath? Don't know if it will help, but I don't think it could hurt. I don't know much about sick chickens though.

A recurring problem that I've seen over the years is that often people baby their chickens too much instead of allowing them to be well acclimated to weather. The chickens end up dying at temps that are not very hot or not very cold because they have not been allowed to be chickens.

Have seen too many people on here over the years that put air conditioning and/or heating in their coops causing problems with the chickens being acclimated. Someone a few years ago was bringing their chickens into the air conditioning every time it rained because they thought the chickens would be afraid of the storm if they were in their coop alone - so the chickens couldn't get accustomed to being outside before the really hot temps of August got here. Then a flip side that I've seen is people trying to be so cheap with building a coop, or not building a coop at all, that the chickens don't have adequate shelter from rain or cold wind.

People love their chickens and want to treat them well but they don't always realize that sometimes their efforts do more harm than good - especially here in TX where we can get extreme weather changes & temperature shifts - sometimes it happens in the same 24 hours.

Talk about not allowing them to be chickens. Poor things! I understand this is a fund raiser for a school in a cold climate (the UK), but still....
