Texas

It's flippin' cold outside! I even got pictures, but first, I gotta deal with the hard stuff.

Two of the chicks passed away. Both weren't looking like they were bouncing back from the trip, so I made sure to give them water and gave them some chick starter (in a mash so they would swallow it), but it didn't help. It was unfortunate, but for the most part, the other chicks are looking pretty good. Three, from what I could tell, were eating plenty and the last chick was sleepy, but still moving around with the others. I'm gonna keep on eye on her, just in case.

I'll post some updated photos in about a week, assuming all are doing pretty well. Hopefully we won't have anymore losses. I also meant to post more news about New Year's Eve chick, but I haven't gotten a chance to bring him out of the garage. He poops everywhere and it's a little daunting, haha!

Secondly, the muscovies are now incorporated! Yesterday, whilst feeding the chickens/ducks, they were watching me from outside the coop and were pushing against the door. I figured it couldn't hurt to see how well the chickens reacted to them, so I let them in.

Everyone was too distracted eating to actually care and once they realized there were three new birds (one of which is huge), they didn't really care. There haven't been any problems since and they are doing really well with the cold weather.

Now, ice photos! I'm so excited because the last time it got this icy, I took pictures, too! It's tradition now, haha!

I didn't edit any of these, though, so the lighting isn't quite right. But the ice sure is pretty, huh?

YALL MY BUNNY CAME HOME!!!!! He was in my backyard just now when I went out to give the chickens their treats. Thanks for even the smallest prayers!:weee

Yea!!!!!
I was thinking about you this morning when I was out with the chickens standing guard in the moments before full light. I was hoping to see a varmint. Did not see anything except a jackrabbit when the sun was up.
So glad to hear your bunny is home.

Planning on getting a live trap. Are there some that are better than others? Borrowed one once at another house to catch raccoons that were getting in our attic. Caught one, but before we could relocate it, it's buddy helped him escape. My hubby thought I had let it out. No way. We ended up paying big bucks to have someone come catch them and raccoon proof our roof to keep them out. It would sound like they were wrestling when they returned to the attic after foraging in the wee hours of the morning.

!

This is a great site. So much information it's hard to digest it all.
I don't have any chickens yet, but working on my coop getting ready to get some in a month or so.
