I was born in Lubbock! Lived there till I was 2 1/2, then moved to Longview, Tx. Now I live out in the country, but still close to Longview.I'm from Lubbock and totally new to the Backyard Chickens community! I'm looking for chickens out here….does anyone know source? Thanks!
Lots of luck!Hi from Houston, everyone!
I set my first hatch in the incubator about 2 hours ago and I have some BLRW bantam chicks coming in the mail next month. Wish me luck on my chicken adventure.
Anyone near me have marans or ameraucana bantams? I want to get some of those next and I'd rather find someone local than ship if possible.
Nice to meet y'all.![]()
I know where Yantis is. Never been there though. I'm still working on getting my chicks.Hi, I am in East Texas as well, live on Lake Fork just outside a little town called Yantis. I just joined BYC as I have only recently (last few days) become a chicken owner. Got 38 baby chicks that are a "barnyard mix" of RIR and Ancona, from the coloring, think they are mostly Ancona. Also have 5 barred rocks about 1 yr old and 6 black copper Marans that are 10 months. Just became the "Crazy Chicken Lady" in one fell swoop!
Hope you find what your looking for!Checking in for roll call.... South Austin here!! And looking for local sources for New Hampshire reds??
I plan on getting mine from the feed stores. I don't know any local breeders.I'm in Dripping and would like to find local sources of chicks...I'm getting my first ones soon. The only place I've found so far is Hill Country Poultry in Burnet.
I'm hoping my dogs do ok with my chicks.I'm in Dallas with a buff cochin bantam, a D'Uccle Millefeur bantam, an Australorp, a Langshan, a Cuckoo Maran that are about 8 months old & 2 Ameracaunas & a Cream Legbar that are about 3 months old. All are free in my backyard. The two rottweilers & the mini Aussie don't bother them but keep the possums out of the yard. The Cream Legbar is my fave. Very friendly & very inquisitive.
Super Bowl!!!!!!!!
off the top of my head, Leghorn and California White are yellow with yellow or light legs, Buff Orpington, and other Buff breeds that have light legs. lemon Cuckoo Marrans can have light legs, if not breed true. If the peep was packing peanut it could be a cockerl as well.My mystery chick. It arrived in the box with Wyandottes from Meyer as a "packing peanut". I know there are a lot of chickens that start off as little yellow fluff balls, but anyone want to take a guess at breed? And, I'm not so cruel as to hold the chick upside down. It appears my phone camera doesn't know the difference in orientation.

Lots of new folks checking in. This is a great site, and this is an even better thread. Lots of info and friendly folks here.
Well, was sick (again) over the weekend, but did manage to do some more work on the coop. I finished putting in the dirt yesterday before it started raining. Today, did some more framing before we go too cold and decided to come in and warm up. It's getting there.![]()
