Texas

So I just set 20 of my frizzled eggs to check fertility. My poor rooster just doesn't seem to be doing the job like he use too. Hopefully I am missing it, and am at a good fertility. Fingers crossed!

In 3 years with an average of 6 hens I have only had 2 double yolk eggs. They were huge. No rooster so no chicks. I never thought about a double yolk producing two chicks. Has anyone ever hatched twin chicks?

I have a young hen, a frequent layer and always had 1 or 2 double yolk in each batch. She has almost 100% hatching rate so her chicks always outnumbered the eggs.

It is freezing cold here in Appleby, Texas, and there is ice all over everything. Could get snow tonight. I went out just before dark, after the first storm went through, and had to open the automatic door to let the ducks into their house. I think it got so dark during the storm that the door closed early. Ice was all over the trees and the fences already. More ice since then. Glad I am NOT driving anywhere tonight and that I will be working from home tomorrow! BBBBRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!
