Welcome back Teri!!Time to touch base. I haven't been active on BYC lately because we've been out of town just enough that I got out of the habit of checking in daily. But I'm back to all things chicken. Just finished my powerpoint presentation on "Backyard Chickens" for the BCS Home & Garden Expo for Saturday & Sunday. Here's the website: http://www.homeexpobcs.com/seminars/
Howdy from conroe Texas
Nice, nice, nice!! I hope they settle in just fine.Another 6:00 a.m. post office run this morning, this time to pick up the two blue bantam Cochins I have been trying to get shipped for the past month. It was too cold and stormy in New York, where they are from, to risk shipping them. I don't know how old they are, but I would guess around 6 or 7 months. They are a nicer clearer blue than the pictures show, and of course, they are pretty dirty after two days in a little box.

I'm so glad she enjoyed it! And I agree, she probably came to visit the chickens as well as you and your mom.Hi Teri
My sister recently came and stayed a few days. She read my copy of Chicken Poop For The Soul while here and loved it. She says she comes to visit me and Mom, but I think she come to see the chickens.![]()

It's the summer I'm really worried about. I'm already asking Cochin people what they do. One person brings the birds in the house! Yikes!

For the Houston Area folks - I was just at Livengood Feed at SH 249 & 2920 in Tomball, TX and they have 2 week and 1 week old Orps, Aust Orps, EEs, RIRs, Red Sex Links and BRs in. All Pullets and lots of em.

There are lots of ideas on here for keeping birds cool. I've read other sites too. Ice bottles, misters, water pans, shade cloth.... Do you get the strings of 100*+ days there like we do up here in the DFW area? It's the summer I'm really worried about. I'm already asking Cochin people what they do.
