Hey Teri.

Welcome back and that's a great power point
Melanie
Thanks for the welcome, Melanie.

I just realized my post was misleading. The web link that I posted was just to the Home & Garden Expo seminars. I didn't make that.

My powerpoint presentation is for one of the seminars on backyard chickens.

Better pic of my new roo. He's getting along GREAT with the girls. It looked like he had to ask permission to eat and drink today, but they were pretty nice to him...probably because they are about half his size!

That's my silver ameracauna in the back ground. They should breed some really pretty olive eggers!!

He's gorgeous!!

Nice!  I bet the do look much better in person.

There are lots of ideas on here for keeping birds cool.  I've read other sites too.  Ice bottles, misters, water pans, shade cloth....  Do you get the strings of 100*+ days there like we do up here in the DFW area?

This makes me want to go to the feed store....  Must resist!

As I was cycling today (outside!!!!) I was running through ideas for keeping chickens.  I almost stopped in to talk with a guy I have talked  with on the phone about chicken keeping. I ride right by his house. He has a big flock of chickens that get to free range on 13 acres.  I wish I could have 13 acres.... Maybe someday I will win the lottery.  I probably should buy a ticket.  I hear the odds are about the same whether you buy a ticket or not. ;) There is a company that I ride by that has tons of pallets stacked up. I should stop in and see if I could have some. I never did get the pallets from the guy who was going to deliver them to me before the ice storm hit.  I also want to figure out how I could get this old shed that is on some land that they moved the house off of a few months ago.  I don't think they want the shed. I could turn it into a chicken coop.  Maybe I can put a note on it....

Miss jellybean you've got to take the bull by the horns! You sound very much like me...I hate asking people for help unless I can reciprocate and I really have no skills. So I usually go without unless I save up and pay for it. Being a single mom on a teachers salary doesn't make for much extra! It sounds like you have a few options-I say stop by the chicken guys house and tell him what you need. All he can say is no and you're no better off than you were before, but what if he is able to help in some way even if it is pointing you in another direction? See if there is some way to contact the people with the shed besides leaving a note as it may get blown off or messed up with rain.
Go on Craig's list daily and see if you can get some wood that way or even a coop. Keep checking that site as it changed daily!!

I want you to get some chickens!!!

Don't try for perfection straight away-you'll never get them. Lol
I've got my fingers crossed that things will begin to come together SOON!!

I've been looking on Craig's list and I found a nice coop. :) I think it is priced too high so I am trying to get her to come down.

I'm a single mom too and I don't make much money either. I have to be very careful how I spend, especially since I did the roof and got new tires already this year. I have some major things that need to get done around my house this year too. I need a money tree. :)

I found this horrible thing too. What were they thinking?!

I saw that!!!! Lol my sister also thought it was ugly!

Good Evening Texas! I was wondering if there are any other places that stock and sell adult Roosters in the San Antonio/Austin corridor. I've been to New Braunfels Feed and Supply, various Tractor Supply Stores, and Callahan's in Austin by the Airport. None of them had a SLW Rooster. Are there any other stores like Callahans or NB Feed in the area? Wimberley/Boerne/Dripping Springs, etc?
