Miss Priss sitting with me a while today.

Such a pretty hen! I plan on getting a couple of Orps with my batch.

So excited! I got my new roo today! He is a splash BLRW! NOT show quality, but very pretty in my books! I have three hens and only one is a Wyandotte....he seemed to know that and picked her out immediately!! I'm a little worried though cause he's SO big!! By girls are only about 6-8 months old and he has to be full grown. HUGE! At least compared to my hens. He wanted to get right to work....

Love the colors!

Love this pic! Looks like she's trying to get as close to the camera as possible without moving off her perch! LOL They have gotten so big and come a long way from when you got them.

Oh my. BYC is addictive. Just realized I have been on here 3 hours, give or take a couple of phone calls. Someone will mention something and I will search the site for info on it.
Basically my chicken set up is small and isolated. I keep their environment clean. They are healthy happy birds. After reading some of the worries and problems I wonder if I should be doing more. But like my Daddy use to say, "Don't look for trouble". If it ain't broke don't fix it. I can see the concern of people with large flocks and show birds. I just think a lot of the stuff will never effect my girls and when it does I'll deal with it.
It is interesting reading though. A lot of different viewpoints. I hope none of these awful diseases and conditions effect any of your flocks.

She's a funny bird. My husband says I spoiled her and now she thinks she should run around the house with everyone else.
She'll only get off the side of the box if I put my hand next to her. Then she climbs on and tugs at my sleeve until I bring her in closer to my chest lol. Then she snuggles down.
If I don't pick her up, she'll sit there until the dog nudges her back into the brooder with his nose. Lol. He thinks that's his job now. He's the chicken keeper

I still don't trust him enough to leave him alone with them. He's barely a year.

Oh my goodness, I just had a terrible scare outside! I went outside and couldn't find New Year's Eve chick!

Turns out he was roaming around under the oaks and wasn't at all hurt/eaten/missing limbs. These darn hawks have got me terrified, I swear! This weekend will be for setting up a couple safety zones for the chickens. I thought there were plenty, but obviously not. The chicks never showed up, so I know they are gone. I guess I won't be taking out the wyandotte chicks for awhile (unless I can get rid of those roosters so the chicks can have the small coop until they are big enough).

Another 6:00 a.m. post office run this morning, this time to pick up the two blue bantam Cochins I have been trying to get shipped for the past month. It was too cold and stormy in New York, where they are from, to risk shipping them. I don't know how old they are, but I would guess around 6 or 7 months. They are a nicer clearer blue than the pictures show, and of course, they are pretty dirty after two days in a little box.

Time to touch base. I haven't been active on BYC lately because we've been out of town just enough that I got out of the habit of checking in daily. But I'm back to all things chicken. Just finished my powerpoint presentation on "Backyard Chickens" for the BCS Home & Garden Expo for Saturday & Sunday. Here's the website: http://www.homeexpobcs.com/seminars/

Hi Teri
My sister recently came and stayed a few days. She read my copy of Chicken Poop For The Soul while here and loved it. She says she comes to visit me and Mom, but I think she come to see the chickens. :)
