Are you saying you are losing the fake eggs? Recently I read an article in one of the backyard chicken magazines that talked about how a hen laid a clutch of eggs maybe 1000 feet (yards???) from the coop. In that clutch was one of his fake eggs that came from the coop. Maybe your hen has stolen the eggs to add to her hidden nest?

Hello my fellow Texans!!! New to the forum and new to chickens... well, my family raised chickens when I was growing up, so not completely new but looking forward to connecting and receiving/sharing advice! :)

You have done wonders with your yard!

I have that book, it's very inspiring, but not for me as I've got many acres...but it would be perfect for your yard! It sounds like a really fun project.
Thank you and good to know. I'll be picking up the book soon. I just placed an order with amazon this morning, before I found the books. grrr!

It is so cold today and will be worse tomorrow. I miss the 70's and 80's we had last week....

Recipe to share time. This one sounds yummy. I need to go grocery shopping soon so I will be picking up the the stuff to make this. I have green beans from my garden in the freezer to use.

Yeah!! You need to change your name now to HasHens. :)

I found a book I want to get. I was browsing the reviews here and found it. My back yard needs a lot of landscaping. My whole yard does actually. This has been a lot of work here! I'm going to use some of the ideas in this book when doing the backyard. :)

Want to see my yard work? Look here.
Thanks for the link to the book.

Isn't that a shed in your back yard??? Couldn't you make part into a coop?

I remember when my hen was stealing away eggs for her nest. She'd carefully hold an egg between her wing, body, and neck and would jump out of the nesting box onto the roost. She'd shuffle down the roost until she found her nest, hop in, and then she'd settle herself in it, gently arranging the egg appropriately.

I remember her being the best mother hen ever, but she was violent. I might let her hatch eggs again this year, but not her own. Of course, it would be so cool to see her stealing eggs again, haha!

That is my garage. I would have to add on to it to make a coop and then I couldn't get around in the back yard very well. I am using the area to the east of the garage for the chickens. That is the area that had the firewood rack and junk in it. It is a nice shady area most of the day. I'm planting grass there in May and will start working on getting the area ready for the coop and run soon.

Who has the mean roo?
