Texas

I agree Clovisman.

Looks like we have rain/thunderstorms predicted for today.I'm hoping to get some more kilz painted on today. I'm wanting to paint the exterior this weekend. I think I'm going with barn red, to match the shed we have out by the barn.

I'm also debating on starting on some more coops in the barn, or just waiting to see if I really like chicken keeping. What do ya'll think? Should I wait and see?

I know I want to get some colored Orps or more Wyandottes. So far, those are my two favorite breeds out of the chicks I have now. I really like how the Legbars look. Those of you that have them, how are their temperaments? I don't have to have "in your lap" chickens, but I do have a 4 yr old granddaughter who is here almost daily, so I don't want anything really wild.

Just a few things to ponder today. :)

Can you make and sell your coops?

Thanks for asking about this. I have been wanting to band some of mine so I can tell which ones are the good layers. Never thought of zip ties. We use them for all kinds of stuff. My girls are grown so once they are on they would be permanent. I think I like the spiral ones, they are small and wouldn't get as much dirt under them. May try the zip ties first. I have a bunch of the small ones in colors and they are cheap. I really only need about a dozen.

Dirt is not an issue--they should be lose enough that they move freely on the leg.

Artificial insemination

A google search even brings up video.

not sure where to buy chicken sperm but you know someone is selling it

Now that's not very practical! You know you have to AI every other day to keep up fertility. I think buying hatching eggs would be a lot cheaper, and buying chicks cheaper still.

Bought a new miter saw yesterday and began cutting lumber for my chicken tractor. Probably won't get much more work done on it until next week, as I have a very busy weekend. I'm a local musician and I have a gig tonight & tomorrow night (on top of the day job). Saturday morning I'll be singing the national anthem for the little leage season opener and then another gig Saturday night. Sunday is my wife's birthday.... One of these days I'll get my chickees... siiiiiigh

Oh no, these will be permanent coops. I'll be turning some of my other stalls in the barn into chicken pens.

Happy birthday to your wife! You can always get her some chicks for her birthday.

Monday is my DH and my anniversary. We'll be married 30 years. Doesn't really seem that long, but then again it seems like we have always been together!
