Texas

Why does this not surprise me. LOL
I'm encouraged that you were able to move her. I'm going to have to move Becka to a broody cage so the other hens don't give her anymore eggs. I was worried about moving her from her nest to a closed cage.

In my situation, I was not allowing her to sit on eggs when she was on the hay bales. After I moved her to the hoop-coop I didn't put in any eggs for the first few hours because she was soooo determined to break out and go to back to her hay. That night I put some eggs in which she still ignored (for the most part) most of the second day. Then I noticed she had moved a few into a new nest, then a few more then finally I put the last (9th) egg in her nest when she got up to eat. I just checked and Speedi is happily sitting on all 9 eggs in the hoop-coop. This will also be my first hoop coop hatch from start to finish.

This year has been my first year ever of doing "on purpose" hatches, (I've had a couple that resulted in sneaky broodies), so I'm still a newbie on this subject.

Erroneous Information....Correction

For those of you who are interested in such things...there will be a total lunar eclipse next Monday and Tuesday(April14-15) night. Totality won't be until 4:45 am Tuesday morning so will have to get up before your chickens if you want to see the best part of it. The moon should be a beautiful red-orange this time. It's called a blood moon and there will be anotherr one this fall.  Just FYI.

Had the date right but the day wrong...sorry

Thanks for posting this.
I will get up at 4:30 to catch it. Is that our time zone?
Surely all of Texas is on the same time zone.

Seven beautiful babies I will get a better picture later it has been along day for them and there is two more in incubator. I am a happy person right now.

That's great. Too stressful for me. I hope to one day try hatching eggs. Tried to under Scrambled when she went broody, but I did not keep her separate from the other hens. They broke the fertilized eggs she was sitting on and replaced them with their own. In the end there was only one egg marked with an X. It did not hatch. I wonder if it was just too hot. It was in Aug. When temps got up to 105°.
Scrambled did a great job, if I had kept her isolated she may would have hatched them. Stupid hens.

I also learned not to put broodies together too. The dominant broody scared the young BCM broody every chance she got until she only had one egg left. It hatched, but life is hard for a single little chick whose mama is not very attentive.

Hi I'm new to the forums. My family and I live in Los Fresnos tx. We want to raise four hens in our back yard. This weekend we are in San Marcos area for a wedding and I am wonder if anyone on here can tell me the best place to pick up some silkies? I'm willing to drive to lockhart/lulling area if they have them there but would rather stay here in san marcos and pick them up here and take them back with us. Can anyone help me plz.

thanks

Do a search on Craigslist Austin. Under Farm/Garden I typed in Silkie South and several south Austin sellers came up...it could be all the same person though, I didn't check.

No I think I messed up again...the article said 3:46 EDT and I get confused but I believe we are an hour earlier so that would make it 2:46 our time not the other way around...sometimes I'm such an airhead. Now I have everyone confused. I even PM hung and now he'll be confused too. If you folks really want to see it, you probably should google it so you don't get up for nothing. so sorry..
