Welcome from East Texas! Wow!! It does look like a black bird. How old are they?

That pic is a keeper! First eggs with Grandpa!! (love your chicken basket!!) :)

That is gorgeous!!
They are 10 weeks old. both of the hens in the pic are just a few days apart in age. I think it looks like a andalusian or dutch bantam. However she and her 2 sisters are still very micro tiny

Someone asked me if my SLW Roos were rose combs a couple day ago. I'm not sure what rose comb is exactly. But their combs are wide and bumby at 9 weeks old. They don't look like the combs on my RIR or my BR, if that helps.

Well with my MIL and FILs help today we finished burning the massive pile of dead fall in the middle pasture. YAY. DF and I also finished fixing the run and "Mama proofing" it. She took a running start and leapt the short fence so we strung two strands of barbed wire and made it taller.

The teenagers also got a few new branches and toys in the run. Lylr sure is getting sweet on a few of the hens. So... we put up nesting boxes ( old milk crates ) and plan on remodeling the old dresser by their run to make it a giant nesting box.

The newest babies joined the older babies in the grow out coop. So now there's chicks in there ranging from a week old to six weeks old... so far so good...

Wondering when the teens will start squatting is driving me insane. Some of the ones I thought were boys are the ones Lyle is flirting heaviest with. hmm...

Busy busy day today.

I am in Rising Star, a small town in central Texas, in the middle of nowhere.

We're in Cedar Park Texas. We have 2 cochin, 6 Rhode island reds and some mysterious micro mini hens that I swear must actually be some type of crow.

NOTE: The run in the pic belongs to the mini hens only. The larger run is being remodeled today. I'm not that mean

Welcome Clarissa and MrsMommaJones from Rosenberg.

I hope to breed chicks and goslings next year. I'll be purchasing some brown and pied Chinese hatching goose eggs from someone one the goose threads. My chicks will be mongrel mix breeds. I don't have the space for separate breeding pens, but I mainly want a self sustaining flock of egg layers to where I just get a new Roo, and a few hens every couple years to keep them from inbreeding too badly. The geese are my babies, they cuddle in my lap and act like dogs following me around, plus they make excellent "watch dogs" and you can hear their alarm call from far away. I'd like more color in my geese though. The ducks I will use as ornamental/egg producers. Not gonna breed them. They will be spoiled though. I bet my sons make pets out of them! Lol

They are tricky to catch, but once you do they're pretty happy to cuddle. I hear duck eggs are yummy!

Do you have a pond/kiddie pool? Our ducks have a large kiddie pool to swim in, that they really enjoy. If you want, you can have it for $15. The pond water makes excellent fertilizer for gardens/yards. :thumbsup - TieDyeMommy
I have 2 xtra large kiddies pools, 1 for the dogs and 1 for the geese, and 3 regular sized ones, 1 for dogs, 1 for geese and 1 in storage. Lol
