Can't we all just get along????

Apparently not!

oh how rude!

Yeah, Howard isn't so cute anymore. And to think I was so proud of him cause he actually scored with Ivory today. Today was the first time he got it right, on land, he can't seem to figure out bobbing on water with the girls yet. Then he ruins his happy day by attacking Ebony! He tries to love on the 3 white crested females, but won't even let the black crested female eat with them. I don't like racists, of any species. And Ebony happens to be MY favorite duck!

I think I am starting to see why @tiedyemommy told me Ebony was a loner. If Howard runs her off from food, she would go out looking for something to eat. This would also explain why, when she sees the food bowl in my hand she comes running to me. Howard, Ivory, and Loudmouth won't come near the food till I back up. I have only had them 6 days, and Ebony is taming much faster than all the other ducks. The only duck nearly as tame is Daisy, her laying companion. They guard each other from the chickens when they need to lay, which is very cute to watch. I just might trade Howard in for a new, young, black duck to keep my Ebony girl company. If I can't find an adult black duck, I'll get some ducklings. Ebony keeps trying to build a nest every time she lays. I can always give her the 6 wooden eggs I have to see if she goes broody, then let her raise some ducklings! Lol

there you go, there's an idea. She may wonder how the ducklings got there so fast though lol

Hello, everyone! Woo, what a day it has been! It's hot down here in the Valley, but the wind is strong and I was able to dry a couple thick blankets in thirty minutes on the clothesline! My dogs now have fresh blankets in their kennels and one of my hens is trying to lay an egg in there, haha!

I have a couple more chores to get to before Mom gets home, but I should finish before it gets too late. I just wish I had had time to start digging for the pond I was gonna put in.

By the way, are there any ways to build a duck pond that won't need to be cleaned as often? I thought maybe having some algae eaters and some plants in there would help counteract the effects of the duck waste, but I don't know where to look first.

The ducks will eat the fish :(.

First I have to see if she will brood. Then, if I am going to do ducklings I have to find some Cayuga ducklings for her. The white crested I have are all Pekin cresteds, and they are loud. Ebony is a mallard crested I think, she is very quite. I'd prefer ducks that aren't as vocal as the Pekin and they have to be black so Ebony has some same colored company, lol.

So anyone have Cayuga ducklings for sale?

cute! I agree, pekins are loud ducks. Pretty, but loud!

Lol, serves her right then. That is just plain greedy, witchy behavior. Bet she finds something else to complain about. Did you put chain link or wooden privacy fence up? With the privacy fence at least you won't have to see her glowering at you. Cause people like that love nothing more than stirring up trouble.

No it is a regular fence and yeah she will probably cause more trouble. But I will be nicelike always. My pawpaw use to always say u catch more bees with honey than u do with poop lol

Howard is a Pekin, thank goodness he is a drake! Loudmouth is extremly vocal, she has yelling matches across the street with that ladies Pekin duck. She also yells when people make the mistake of quacking at her. That's how she got her name, she doesn't shut up! I couldn't deal with more like her. She may have to go with Howard just because of her yelling.
I also think the cayuga ducks are so pretty with how their feathers shine in the sunlight. A couple hens and 1 drake and Ebony will have herself a new family. Of coarse with my luck, the **** Cayuga drake would be racist to the white cresteds, or think something is wrong with a Ebony cause she has a crest and the other cayugas don't. Lol.

Still, if anyone finds some Cayuga ducklings for sale near San Antonio, please let me know. It's worth a shot to keep Ebony from being an outcast.
