I get out of bed and look out the window and it's cool, cloudy, and misting outside? WTH?? I go outside to feed the 'chooks and man does it feel good out there! My Sussex and Orpingtons are having a blast. Instead of breathing hard all day...they are actualy able to have a "fun" day...as far as a chicken day goes!!

Yeah, dang weatherman lied again. He said it would get up to 96, and it's only 91. BLESS HIM!!! This is one "lie" I'd like to hear from him more often! Now, if only he'd lie about that 0 to 20 percent chance of rain...

I am hoping someone can help me out on here. I am looking for a place where I can buy some hatching eggs in East Texas (Tyler, Longview area). I teach at an Elementary school and each year I hatch out eggs with my students. Last year we got them from the County Ag office, but they were meat birds (not what I was told they would be!). So this year I am going to purchase eggs but I would prefer them to be from somewhere that I can go and pick them up since I hear a lot horror stories about shipped eggs. My kids would be sad if none hatched due to the postal service! I probably won't need them until the spring but I was wanting to get a head start on where to look. I would like to find some BLRW or SLW. But I could be persuaded with other breeds! After hatching, these chicks will join my flock! Thanks in advance for any help!!

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy, mine were the same way, I had some of mine today actually taking a dust bath, have not seen them do that since they were young pullets. They were even hanging out inside the coop, heck I may even get to turn the fan off I have in their coop soon.

Busyteacher - does Texas School Districts have a science center? I am a born & raised California Girl, who just moved to Texas in March. I know for LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School Dist. they had a science center, which had incubators, chicken eggs, duck eggs, frog eggs, anything you wanted to hatch, a teacher could go over & sign out. Could you check with the local high school or maybe a FFA & see if you could borrow a incubator and if a local breeder might donate some eggs to your class. A million years ago;) (1968), when I was in 1st grade we hatched baby chicks, it was the coolest thing. My teacher had a farm and took them with her when she retired that summer.

My two girls miss having baby chicks, and keep asking when we can get more or when our chickens will have babies. We just had our first egg on Thursday, and my girls have been on egg watch ever since.

Thanks Mommy 2 Wee Ones for your response. Our school purchased an incubator long ago and it still works so I am just in need of the eggs. I am not familiar with any breeders in the area that sell their eggs. I have found a ton that sell chickens. I guess if I can't find any maybe the chicken sellers will let some go for a great cause!

I'm between Houston and Huntsville .. if you don't find anybody closer, you can have whatever you need from me. We can work out a meeting point, if necessary.

I've got a Salmon Faverolles rooster over various colored egg laying breeds of hens .. I get pastel green, olive, blue, brown, and tinted eggs. ..... and also a bantam cochin roo over some d'uccle hens ... we can set you up. Let me know.

Sat outside this morning, drinking my coffee, watching the 'chicken show' (what my 6yr old calls our chickens and guineas). I was in pants and a long sleeved shirt WHOOP!!! It was fun watching the girls chase down grasshoppers and such without panting. You could tell they were enjoying the weather as much as I was.
