Uh Oh, if you find yourself into Orps, do NOT look at SD Ranch in Farmersville

They're pricey but they're rarer colors and ohhhhh so gorgeous
It may help that they're a pretty long drive from you.

Yeah, have seen the advertisements. They are too pricey for me. Want some Lavender Orpingtons. I know they are pricey birds, but wife loves them, she won't admit it, but she does. Loking for 4 pullets or hens, not set up for chicks. All we have room for. Wanting to add 4 young hens or even pullets very soon. Have 8 laying hens, wanting an even dozen.

You mean like the Jubilee Orp? That is a gorgeous bird.

Oh yeah.....I've probably brought them up a dozen times and I can never remember.

I'm not doing any more chicks this year but my next one's will be from them. So I have time to save

They just got in Spangled Orps too

Lol, every time I get close to emptying my brooder I end up getting more chicks. I have brooded 12 geese, for myself and others with only 1 loss. 7 SLW, 7 RIR, 6 BR with 1 loss. 6 BO 6BA, and am getting ducklings this Thursday. I started with 6 goslings and the RIR, BR, and SLW who are all 12 weeks old. I have 2 goslings left from that batch and all the RIR and surviving BR. Sold 3 SLW cockerels because I had 6 of them out of 7 (horrible luck). I have 9 week old BO. 6 week old goslings and BA. 5 week old goslings, and 2 week old goslings.I haven't stopped brooding chicks since this started 12 weeks ago. I think I need a break, lol.

I'd love some Jubilee Orps, and spangled, and other colors as well. But they are too expensive for me. And I don't have the space to have them in a coop of their own. Everyone free ranges together in my yard. If they can't get along they can't stay. So paying that much for birds that I couldn't ensure bred together don't make much sense. The eggs of the BO are just as tasty as the JO.
But man, I'd love some of those rare Orps in my yard.

Night Ken! Tomorrow I'll make you shake those tail feathers. And thanks.

Help please!
I was letting my big girls out to free range for a bit before bed time. Went in to tuck in my oldest and my neighbor or the shop that has the yard behind me threw trash in my yard! There was Styrofoam and my silkies and EEs were eating it!!
What should I do for them??

Mine get to the styrofoam insulation in their coop on occasion, it was part of the building already. We thought we had it cut high enough, but they jump up. We forgot to cut it on the door and when we changed out nesting arrangements we accidentally gave them access to a different area...anyways...we haven't had any noticeable health issues over the past year. I was a little concerned at first, honestly more for our health and what may or may not be in their eggs, toxin wise, from the material they consumed. Since it was a fluke, I wouldn't stress it. You will be surprised by what you find if you do a search on it...chickens seem to love the stuff....
