Texas

Hi Texas chicken fans been away for awhile now wasn't feeling well and had some bk problems but am bk in the game again!!
I have my first white English Orpington chicks hatching right now!! Am so happy! And finally my silkies r up and laying again!!!

I also have two very nice breeding black silkie roos for sale!

Welcome back!!!

Kinda in their side, eyes closed, wings spread, neck stretched out, 1 foot tucked the other stretched out. This is the most common position mine sunbath position.

I can't wait to see that.

We have an area that we use to burn brush and wood scraps from my shop. Haven't used it in a while, so all my birds go over to it to do the dustbath thing. I will let them do their thing for a while, then call them. They come a runnin, and the dust trails that they have coming off of them are amazing. It is a site to see!!

What the dust bath does is tis, smothers parasites, plain and simple. Woodash, a slong as it is not cedar, is best for this.

I was going to make the ladies a dust bath box with sand and DE. Think this would be good for them?

You should 8 chickens running for treats straight from the ash bath!!!

I can imagine.

Right now they use the dirt in their yard for dust-bathing. I want to incorporate DE as well, to help with the pest control. I was going to make them a dust-bath area, but it looks like they don't need one. We burn fallen branches of our trees, so I'll add some ash in there as well.

You will.

Oh and Howard is gone. I packed him and Loudmouth off to my sisters before I did something I would regret. It's temporary, unless my brother in law changes his mind. My sister wants Loudmouth so it's a trail thing. They come back if it don't work out there. Maybe by then I'll be cool enough to deal with Howard. ebony is still hurt but all the soaks seemed to help. She did finally pass the egg, but it was damaged.

Best thing for them is wood ash. you can mix sand with it. DE is good, but not in high concentrations. Wood ash works the same as DE with out the side effects. Just don't use cedar ash. Toxic.

We have no cedar trees in our yard. We have chinese tallow, magnolia, pecan & chinaberry trees. Would any of those ashes cause a problem with The Ladies?

Glad to hear Howard had someplace to go while things mellowed out. What about the guy who wanted Howard + Crested? Is he no longer interested, or are you still undecided about selling them to him?

Also very glad to hear Ebony laid her egg...Sorry she is hurt. Hope she recovers quickly.
