Texas

Still limping badly. I couldn't give her the soaks with the storms and all, but have started them up again. I treated her feet with Blu-kote to prevent infection, and I am adding vitamins and minerals to her drinking water. From what I have found out she could take up to a month to heal a badly pulled muscle. If her hip was dislocated I don't think she could use it to paddle in the pool during swim therapy time. So I am hopeful that with a lot of time she will make a full recovery. The upside, if you can call it that, is that she will be spending lots of time with the new ducklings. They will be separated at first to make sure she don't injure them, but she will be right next to their nursery. So my hope is that she will bind with the ducklings, and when she is healed they should be old enough to free range with her if she accepts them. She won't have to sit on a clutch to become a mommy this year, lol. We will see how things go.

I'm sure it'll work out well. Please keep us posted!

I will keep y'all posted. I will try to get picks of the ducklings within a couple days of bringing them home. I usually let day old babies have a couple days as stress free as possible in the brooder. Make sure they eat, drink, and recover from shipping before I bring them out and let them play.

Sounds good. I'm excited for ya'll (and Ebony).

Ebony just had some swim therapy. She was using her injured leg a little, and it's not straight under her like it should be. But she was using it more than she does on land. We will continue working with her, giving her swimming time and what not to help keep her muscles toned and help her heal. While Ebony was swimming Daisy and Ivory came over and I swear they were talking to each other, lol. Poor Ebony wanted to go with them but we didn't let her. She needs to be fully healed before she runs off with the other, bigger ducks.
