Texas

This was Ebony the night of the storm. It was only supposed to be her and the 2 goslings in the make shift nursery, but the chicks let themselves in. So she had a whole lot of company, lol.

Hermione and Harry look different...

I would usually adore this cooler weather but it came when I'm sick and already freezing right now I am under 4 blankets, have 2 heating pads, and a heater pointed towards me!!!
Hope you feel better!

Omg! Really? I'll have to look into this more. Ugh..and I JUST got rid of my sweet roo.
He wouldn't have exactly been useful anyway though. I'm SO excited about this.

I may not catch up in this group until after the wedding. I'm pooped. Nite.
Pictures pictures pictures.
I hope its everything she dreamed about and more!

:celebrate   Snuggle Pile!

Lol yeah. She and the babies were definately warm, which turned out great when the lightning hit the house and flipped my breakers. That snuggle pile kept everyone warm and no one was alone through all the noise. Now the chicks are in the chicken coop and it's just Ebony and the 2 goslings back in the nursery. At least until tomorrow when I pick up the ducklings, lol. Poor nursery hasn't had a break since all this started 12 weeks ago.

Still limping badly. I couldn't give her the soaks with the storms and all, but have started them up again. I treated her feet with Blu-kote to prevent infection, and I am adding vitamins and minerals to her drinking water. From what I have found out she could take up to a month to heal a badly pulled muscle. If her hip was dislocated I don't think she could use it to paddle in the pool during swim therapy time. So I am hopeful that with a lot of time she will make a full recovery. The upside, if you can call it that, is that she will be spending lots of time with the new ducklings. They will be separated at first to make sure she don't injure them, but she will be right next to their nursery. So my hope is that she will bind with the ducklings, and when she is healed they should be old enough to free range with her if she accepts them. She won't have to sit on a clutch to become a mommy this year, lol. We will see how things go.

It rained here again last night and this morning. Not complaining though, no more rain in the forcast all week, hope that wasn't all we're gonna get before the heat comes. The sun is out intermitently and its pretty breeezy so that will help dry things out. Can't work in my garden without mud boots right now.
All the chickens went to bed with muddy feet.

We took the flooded half of the coop down to the dirt yesterday and put down a base of pine bark. Going to see how it works. It's coarser than the shavings so hope it drains better and air circulates better. Has anyone else tried doing this?

Going to put the shavings over that. Back half was damp but not soaked so will wait until we put the new roof on the coop and then clean it all out. If the bark works well then will put that as a base throughout with shavings on top.

In preparation for the next flood we're going to dig a trench in front of the coop and put coarse gravel in it to channel the water around. We really don't want to have to strip the ground again and don't want it to get wet like it did this time not good for us or chickens. Live and learn...adapt and overcome!

I'm sorry for those who had damage, but glad no one was hurt...people or critters. Messes can be cleaned up but life not replaced.
Good day to all...Magpie

If the pine bark base works please let me know. My goose coop was so wet I had to take it down to the dirt floor as well, and the bedding was only a week old! I am going to set it out to dry, but I don't think that bedding will be usable as anything but mulch/fertilizer. I am laying new dry bedding in the coops today. Need them all nice and clean so everyone can go back to their coops, and so my new ducklings nursery is all clean too. Lol

The damage is being cleaned, the garden can be replanted, if I have the time and energy.
