Awesome! I foresee more ladies coming to your house, lol. Chicken math strikes again! At least we love our chickens!

I am down to 28 chickens right now! And this weekend my brother in law picks up his 3 chicks I brooded for him. So I will be down to 25. I wonder if I could talk the hubby into letting me get a couple EEs!

Maybe. I thought you recently said you weren't allowed to bring in any more animals this year.

The reason is chickens poop more when they sleep than when they are awake.

This what it seems like anyway. You really don't want them pooping in the nesting boxes for obvious reasons. Just put some artificial eggs or golf balls in the nests, this may help them get the idea that these areas are for eggs only. If not, you may have to block them of for a few nights to force them to roost where they are supposed to. If you allow them to continue to sleep, and poop, in the nesting boxes, it can be a health concern for chicken and human. Hope this helps.
Quote: Well they crap on the bedding and if they was laying in there that would make dirty eggs so it is best to keep them out of there at night. And it can also make the hens go broody by being in the nest for long periods of time.

I have 20 EE chicks age is 3 1/2-4 months, wont be long they should start laying I think...anyone know?I am only keeping 8 for my grandkids, all the others I am selling :)

I get attached too. But I can't keep them all, and if I don't eat my own birds I am eating someone else's birds who probably had a really crappy life before they made it to my freezer. Plus, these Roos could have ended up as dog food or ground up on hatch day. At least they got a decent life and we did our best to make sure their end was swift and painless. It is never easy for me, but I don't think killing any animal should be easy. I always have to give myself a pep talk before every cull day.

for real

Mine waits till it is dark and sits outside and listens to what me and and my hubby says when we think we are alone

I'd give them an earful. We've had neighbors that would sit out on their porch and drink beer while watching us work outside - like we were their television or something. We've done things before to make sure they got a "show" and let them know they didn't impress us with their snooping. Figure if their entertainment is to watch us dig in the yard, they must have pretty crappy lives.

Wow, that is a stalker. Just to mess with the creepy neighbors, talk to your hubby about getting pigs and putting their pen right next to that new fence. :gig

Hell we was messing with her and talking about putting a duck pond next to the fence and the next day she said she will dig the dang pond errr. Lol I like the pig pen lmao
