Texas

Pease let me know what you find out because I was thinking of going to those and what's stopped me is my concern with Texas heat and not getting enough water.

One of my hens was looking kinda dull yesterday eve and I'm wondering if it not enough water from those nibblers...never seen a chicken hold still enough to make those silver valves have time to run water out...I'll watch more this evening if I have time... Think I will put an old waterer back in and see if they drink a lot from it

I use the horizontal nipples in a 5 gallon bucket. My chickens seem to use it just fine. They don't "hang" around the waterer, but they do drink from it 3-4 times, then go about their business.

It's much easier for me to use. I have trouble screwing the lids on the other waterers. This one snaps on. It also stays clean. No poop or shavings can get into the bucket. There was always poop/shavings in the flip bucket. Of course, they do poop on the top, since they all love to sit on the lid.

I've never used the vertical nipples. So I don't know how those are. The horizontal ones do have a little "lip" under the nipple that holds a bit of water that they drink from. Maybe it's easier for them to drink their fill than from the vertical nipples?

With the horizontal nipples, you can sit the bucket flat and not have to worry about breaking off the nipples.

eta: From what I have read, if you put both types of waterers in the pen for the chicks, they will usually go for the regular waterer, simply because it is easier to drink from. Best thing is to do what you feel is best for your flock.

well get a few live traps out there with some wet cat food I don't know why small animals like that like wet cat food but it always works for us (either fish, chicken or beef flavored is best). trap as many as you can and release them as far away for your house as possible next to a small creek, river or lake is best so they don't starve etc.
