Texas

Ran across this late last night and thought I would share. Wife wants to go so she set the clock. Guess I should have kept it to myself.

AnyBody familiar with the growth rate of black sex links? I got one from my feed store a couple weeks ago along with a couple other 1-2day old chicks. They are red production and EE. Right now, the bsl is less than 3/4 the size. I'm wondering if it is because she gets less to eat or if it's normal for bsl to grow slower or be smaller...

We get ours for our horse barn ( & of course chicken coops) from Haul Brooke Inc. 210 212-5003 :)

Thanks for the number and company name. I am going to check it out. Discovered that the rooster my sister gave me has mites, treated the whole flock, including the ducks and geese, and cleaned both coops, but I am out of bedding now. Hopefully this will be cheaper than TSC wood shavings.

Mites is a pain. Just saying

I know, I feel awful too. I didn't check Screwball when my sister brought him over. I trusted that her birds were clean. I did check the ducks and the Black Orp cockerel before releasing them into the yard, they were from outside sources so I always check for parasites. But my sister ends up being the 1 who gave us mites. So far Screwball is the only one with mites and eggs. Don't see any mites crawling on him at the moment, checked this morning and put him back in solitary. But his butt is now red and irritated, which it wasn't 2 days ago when I treated for mites, and I can't get the eggs off him. I treated with Eprinex pour on, it does internal and external parasites. I have to do it again in 10 days, but what can I do to relieve the itchiness?

None of my other birds shows eggs on their vent feathers, so I am hoping I caught it early enough to prevent mass infection. I gave everyone a treatment to be safe.

I just score 14 pallets! The lady across the street is married to a trucker who comes home every weekend. He says he can bring me about a dozen pallets every Saturday for as long as I need! Well until he gets some chickens then he needs the pallets for his own coop, but Yay! New floor for the goose coop, and I can make some large windows in the chicken coop covered with wire and slats for security! Not to mention the goose coop extension in the future. Maybe a duck coop and grow out pen too. So excited! :weee

On a different note, been looking at aborts and have narrowed down my choices to a Havor Bator with chicken and goose rack and turner. Or a Janoel 60 egg Bator with no turner. I like the egg capacity and plastic housing of the Janoel but the Havabator has the egg turner and good reviews. I could use the Janoel as a hatcher and the HB as the Bator. But realistically I can only afford 1 right now.

Tips, advice, suggestions?
