Texas

I'm new to chickens. My husband and I live on an acre plot South of Lubbock, TX, and built a huge coop and then got handed 4 straight run chicks after a Pre-K class hatched them out. We loved and cared for them. We were told that one was a Bantam and the other 3 Polish but they are all mutt's the Bantam being the most close to being pure. We just recently discovered they were all roos. :( not our happiest moment as we are trying to get an egg laying operation under weigh. Now I am trying to find homes for 3 of the 4 roos. I'm going to keep my glossy black polish cross because he is pretty and hasn't shown any dominance over me or my husband. If anyone knows of anyone here in the Lubbock area looking for a young rooster please let me know. They are about 4 months old now. We have 8 new chicks that we are raising in hopes they are females. They are Cochin and Cochin cross. Looking forward to our adventure.

The Bantam and the White Polish try to chase me when I enter the coop but I just keep my handy trash can lid like a shield and go in and chase them for a short period of time. They run scared. I think they would be happy if I had enough females for them but that just isn't going to happen.

My Bantam roo started crowing at 3 months. Is that like super early?
Eh...depending on the breed. My EE roo started at 9 weeks, but My Silkie wasn't crowing still at 13 weeks..

On a separate note, would anyone be interested in a proposition?

I'm trying one last breeder, but if I have to, I'll be ordering some chicks from Ideal.
I don't NOT need (nor do I have the space for) $25 worth of birds.
I'm willing to bite the bullet and pay for extra chicks AND shipping, if someone would be willing to take them.
Dallas area, but if you want to travel, that's fine.
I can order whichever breed/combination you like.
I just want a few Salmon Faverolles.

Hey everybody hope everyone is having a good day.I moved to the odessa midland area and I'm wondering what people who live around here do to keep your flocks in this heat?

Thank you and I will.  We like tats also.  We are both tat artists...retired now. We had a tattoo studio in Willis for three years.  Was called Skin FX.  So I did most of his work and he did all of mine.  Haven't had a new piece in two years since we closed the shop.

I am content for now that I got the Aussies.   Next year I will be very selective on new birds.

Your ducks are beautiful.  I'm sure they are very entertaining.
What a treat to have wild ducks visit you.   The only time I've had any contact with a wild duck was last fall.  Dh was cleaning up behind the barn and he yelled.  It's a duck!
Someone had shot a mallard drake and it couldn't fly.  We thought it was just grazed so called our ranger friend to see if we could keep it.  Sadly it was dead the next morning so it was probably hurt more than it appeared.  Really ticked me off too because it was out of season for hunting duck.

The ducks are funny, I love when the talk to me or start bobbing their heads at me or each other. They have such cute personalities, so do the geese. I have to say that the water fowl personalities make them awesome pets. And easier to tell them apart, I haven't named all my chickens and don't think I will. The RIRs all act alike, with very minor differences in looks that my hubby and kids don't notice, same with the BAs, BOs, and BRs. I do have 1 BR that's stands out as super friendly and talkative, but she is the only one. The geese are easier, and the ducks easier still.

well here in grand prairie it normally gets to 106f-108f every summer and we have never had a death from heat stress in my grams flocks and everyone in my personal home flock is loving the warm up.
