Texas

The Bantam and the White Polish try to chase me when I enter the coop but I just keep my handy trash can lid like a shield and go in and chase them for a short period of time. They run scared. I think they would be happy if I had enough females for them but that just isn't going to happen.

lol's yeah i have a bamboo stick to tag hellion with every time he attacks my feet.

Eh...depending on the breed. My EE roo started at 9 weeks, but My Silkie wasn't crowing still at 13 weeks..

On a separate note, would anyone be interested in a proposition?

I'm trying one last breeder, but if I have to, I'll be ordering some chicks from Ideal.
I don't NOT need (nor do I have the space for) $25 worth of birds.
I'm willing to bite the bullet and pay for extra chicks AND shipping, if someone would be willing to take them.
Dallas area, but if you want to travel, that's fine.
I can order whichever breed/combination you like.
I just want a few Salmon Faverolles.

how much money worth of chicks are you going to order? i really wanted a few poults or boilers but i need to wait until i get payed tomarro i am in grand prairie BTW.

Thank you and I will. We like tats also. We are both tat artists...retired now. We had a tattoo studio in Willis for three years. Was called Skin FX. So I did most of his work and he did all of mine. Haven't had a new piece in two years since we closed the shop.

I am content for now that I got the Aussies. Next year I will be very selective on new birds.

Your ducks are beautiful. I'm sure they are very entertaining.
What a treat to have wild ducks visit you. The only time I've had any contact with a wild duck was last fall. Dh was cleaning up behind the barn and he yelled. It's a duck!
Someone had shot a mallard drake and it couldn't fly. We thought it was just grazed so called our ranger friend to see if we could keep it. Sadly it was dead the next morning so it was probably hurt more than it appeared. Really ticked me off too because it was out of season for hunting duck.

man people suck. my neighbor went out and shot a bunch of doves for their feathers of all things he didn't even eat them!! i have never seen that many doves in my life!!

The ducks are funny, I love when the talk to me or start bobbing their heads at me or each other. They have such cute personalities, so do the geese. I have to say that the water fowl personalities make them awesome pets. And easier to tell them apart, I haven't named all my chickens and don't think I will. The RIRs all act alike, with very minor differences in looks that my hubby and kids don't notice, same with the BAs, BOs, and BRs. I do have 1 BR that's stands out as super friendly and talkative, but she is the only one. The geese are easier, and the ducks easier still.

ok false alarm the ducks are ok now i have no idea why they wouldn't eat the first night but they got over that crap easily i really need to fishish making my feeders so i don't have to run out their every 4 hours to fill their feeder do your ducklings eat this much?

I have no advice for you.  I just ignored The Ladies because I thought I was another month, or more, away from laying...and BAM...EGGS!  :p

My first batch of chickens are due to start laying in the next month. I bet Ivory tries to sneak her first eggs in the chicken coop, lol. It would be just like her to do something like that.

i brooded my anacona duckling inside for the first week and a half to make sure their was no leg problems after they hatched. So last night i put them out in their pen and they haven't eaten or drank anything since last night. I was in a hurry because i was getting eat alive by bugs and put them in the brooder before i put their bills in the water etc but the feeding station hasn't changed it's still the same Tupperware should i be worried? When i was putting them in the brooder they ALL jumped out of my hands into the brooder but it was only about a 6in drop onto a 4in pile of hay but i didn't think anything of it because they all ran to the back of the brooder and laid down in a pile could they have gotten hurt and me not know it?

I'd think they are just a little stressed from the move. My husband actually dropped one of our ducklings on a gravel driveway, and he is 6'2" tall. The duckling wasn't I mired, though I gave my hubby a good yelling at for trying to carry 2 ducklings at a time and dropping 1. just make sure they are eating and drinking and they should be fine.

Hi, it has been months sense I last posted and visited Texas Thread. I was think of moving here.

UPDATE:
I am traveling instead. Long story, just leaving it as, this is who it turned out. I have been in Texas for some time now. Stayed in Odessa's for a few days, really needed the time. Now I am broke down in Clyde, Texas. I want to put in a word for Neals Automotive. They are doing a great job, saved me money twice.

I am posting on YouTube under "Travels with chickens", I have right now 2 Pullets, 2 Cockrels and an unknown. I am trying to find a home for the Roos. When I get to Mo, they will end their journey with me. Still to young for dinner, but maybe they will end up with a good home. What I want is 3 pullets. One is a Silkie, I will not know for some time if he or she. I may end up with only 2 Pullets. Chick out my video. I will be back thru this winter. Plan on spending more time then. I have a friend in Mo. That has chickens and my traveling coop can only hold 2-1/2 chickens. They are growing fast.

Yes, they are feathered pigs. And they love to make a mess with their food and water too. But the adult ducks aren't as bad, so the pigging out has to slack off at some point. But ducks and geese DO eat significantly more than chickens, so keep that in mind when you get/make their feed dish.
