Texas

luckily everything of mine survived

My chicks were still inside their brooder, in the house, and my plants are I'm cow pots until I get my garden area situated...so I pulled them inside too

Dublin got HUGE melon size hail, where are you located @StelleKitten

North of Glen Rose and South of Granbury. I was just right in the middle of the nasty storms. They went north of me and south of me. We were so scared!
Howdy! Be forewarned: chickens are addicting

(No one told me)
And that danged chicken math. 1 chick + 1 chick means you have to get 6 chicks because that is the minimum order. But one might be rooster so you should get a couple of extra anyways. But then to make a nice even pen (we all know 7 chicks need 70 feet of room to roam and that is just not an even number) we should get an odd number to add to that. And bantams are half sized so you can get two and only count them as one. Eggs not hatched don't count, you aren't supposed to count your chickens before they hatch. Oh! but look different colored eggs! Oh and lets not get into feathered topped, feather footed, spots, bars, frizzles and all that. :)

ETA that I clicked the pencil by mistake and I didn't actually edit anything. Lol

If I was looking for ya Kate I would be looking for a redhead!! Of course also wearing a purple shirt. More rain coming Kate but rain beats the hell out of drought. After 2011 I said I would never complain about the rain.

Lmao I keep forgetting that my hair is my icon.... I was bringing birds, but, things changed.

Welcome from Trinity!

David, I do believe I'm not complaining... Just fussing. Everything's drowning, trees uprooting... a little dry weather would be nice but not another drought please! I had to drive north for feed and hay... it was terrible.

You sound like you passed math with flying colors. ;)

I have to start all over :/
Dogs got a taste of blood Friday morning and took out the rest Monday morning

I'm going to wait until I get their place ft.knoxed before we get anymore

Where would be the best place, either local or through a hatcher,to get chicks and ducks

We live in stephenville, tx

I am so sorry!

For what it's worth, I have found that electric net and electric fence both work wonders for keeping dogs away from chickens.

As for chicks and ducks, your choices are hatcheries, feedstores, and breeders. All three have pros and cons (and I've sourced from all three). Depends upon whether you need show quality, pet quality, or something more industrial.

I will never brood chicks again. Power went out and temperatures dropped. I am a worried Momma hen. Do not need the stress. Yesterday was a beautiful day and I thought it might be a good time to put the chicks out in a fenced area until a saw the hawk which I had forgotten about. It never bothers my full grown hens, but I am sure it would have gone after the chicks. Now with the colder weather I am thinking it will be weeks before I move the chicks outside to their coop/brooder.
I miss watching my broody hens raise chicks. That's the way to do it.

I'm sorry about the power outage--that does make it much harder.

That cold front is something else! It's suppose be warm again by the weekend though. Maybe it will knock out some of the misquitos?
