Texas

Funny enough, I'm prepared to butcher the extra roos when the time comes, but was upset over this loss.

Awww, I'm sorry you lost Camo. I would feel the same if one of mine died, I'm sure. We have one that we're pretty sure is a cockerel and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to eat him, so I hope to re-home him. If anyone in the DFW area is looking for a lovely EE boy, let me know.

So after doing more reading in the learning center on quarantining, I have decided to have the new birds tested to see if they are carriers of anything. I am also going to do a sample testing of the rest of my flock, since they have not been tested previously. The new birds have been in quarantine for just over 2 weeks and seem perfectly healthy, just being overly cautious and don't want to use the "canary in a cage" method even though I do have a few excess cockerels.

The A&M lab in Gonzales has very reasonable prices. Now I just need to learn how to be a chicken vampire. Have a friend who may be able to teach me. Shouldn't be too difficult to learn. I've stuck humans before, just a smaller scale and learning different anatomy.

Went home to tend to my critters on my lunch break to find that my neighbor had dropped a box of strawberry plants over my back fence. He's elderly and giving up gardening. The strawberries were the last thing he held onto. Guess I know what I'll be doing when I get off work. lol I'll have to be sure to drop his box back over the fence with some squash, zucchini and okra from my own garden

can't find that on any street corner...nice to see things like this still happen...anybody on here raising hogs?? Wanting to give it a go along with my flock of chickens...just started completely free ranging my milli fleur leghorns the start of this week going well so far...I figure with the pigs tilling the chickens will have more access to bugs they couldn't find themselves...any thoughts?

We keep our pigs and chickens separate. They'll eat a chicken if it doesn't outrun them.

Good to know. We have also been debating on getting a couple of bacon seeds.

Would there be a problem with chickens foraging on an area the pigs have been, so long as the pigs don't have access? Such as with pasture rotation.
