Hope you didn't have any flooding recently. What kind of chickens to you have?
It didn't flood where we live, but I know a lot of people that got flooded again! Just terrible... We have Silver Laced Wyandottes, RIR, Buff Orpingtons, Black Austs, Easter Eggers, Barred Rocks. We just recently hatched our first babies on the farm, The father is an Australorp and all his babies are black like him! So cute... Do you like near SM? What kind of chickens do you have?

51 hens and we're down to 9 eggs a day. Don'tcha just love this time of year? The older hens are molting and the younger ones are slowing down for the winter. My Yankees are now 20 weeks, so it will be interesting to see if they start laying soon, or if they hold out for spring.

The red tailed hawks have started to migrate through lately. Hope they leave my girls alone this time. I'm keeping them close to the barn for most of the day. I liked it better when all we had was the red shouldered hawks - they're too small to bother the hens, but would perch on the fence after a rain and hunt for crawfish & frogs.

I am trying to combat it with some feather fixer, and Sunflower seeds to augment the feed to deal with the few that are molting, and I try to free range them before it gets too dark.

What's feather fixer? I've upped the amount of catfish food in their food for more protein. I use BOSS in the grain mix anyway, so that's there. I'm hoping to keep the flock under the radar of these hawks (my neighbor has had them perching on his uncovered run) and I'm only letting them out in the big pens/pasture after I get off work, so I can keep an eye on them and they can do their job (keeping my horse pen free of flies!)
