Anyone planning on going to the Klein Poultry and Pigeon Extravaganza tomorrow, in Klein? Or the Blue Bonnet Classic Poultry Show Jan 2nd, in College Station?

I am trying to find out more information on both, but neither website is dial-up friendly.

Anyone notice that their flock is braver when you're out with them? I opened the gate from the barn area to one of the horse pens today and all 50 hens/roosters charged out. I went back inside for a bit and when I came out, not a hen to be seen. As I walked through the barn, they started coming out of all the stalls and followed me back out to the pen, but stopped at the edge of the barn. I sat down in a chair and within 2 minutes, they were all surrounding me, pecking and scratching away. I figure something must have spooked them earlier, but they certainly felt safe to come back out as long as I was going to hang with them! Conan, the head rooster, even came up and started trilling at me and dropped a few rocks and twigs at my feet. He's usually acting like I'm the next predator, so it was quite a personality change - more like his dad, Mr. Feathers, treats me.

I agree, my flock is a lot more relaxed when i am out with them. I lead them around the garden for a walk as there are parts of the garden they prefer not to use at the moment, and i have a feeling its because i use an alternative route to the coop (lots of rain here, so using the garden is a no-no) so they don't hang out there right now.
Like to rooster tit-bitting you! - never heard of that!

Mine do this a lot - not that they won't go out when I'm not there, but sometimes I'll walk out and find them all inside, and as soon as they see me, they come running out again. All three groups/paddocks. It really does seem to be a bit of a "oh, if she's here, then it must be safe". It happens less now than when they were younger, but it still happens...

I find it hysterical that they think I make it safe, because they always manage to notice a hawk coming in for a swoop well before I do.

Mine do this also but mine are more like.... "got anything good to eat?" lol. They are all characters that's for sure.

Hi I'm Matt and i'm out in Grangerland near Conroe. Always looking for likeminded people and would enjoy having some local Chicken folks to talk to.

Mine do this a lot when it comes to the weather. It can be pouring rain and miserable, but if i so much as walk by the coop their all out and after me. I always accrued it to they think I have a treat. ( I usually do) Lol.

What's funny is that I don't generally give treats to my chickens - not because I'm mean or strict, but because they range around a lot and generally find mud and bugs much more appealing than anything I could produce. But they still enjoy my company.

A few of them will follow me all along their paddock fence line.
