Texas

I too have a goat book by Ellie Winslow I would like to sell....Anyone interested?...If so Please contact me...Thanks....Donna

I am interested in the book....I sent you a PM.

Also to all the other Texans out here......of the bird breeds mentioned, which would be the best for a meat bird I could raise and breed myself, but would be able to stand the El Paso summers? I don't know if it's hotter here than in other parts of TX or not, I just got here... but I've been reading a lot and decided I'd like to buy birds once, an incubator and try to raise birds for both eggs and meat.

Can I just say I've never been in an Atwood's until yesterday??? And I didn't have the time to spend looking around as I would have preferred!!!!

Loved it!!! Must go back soon!!! TSC on steroids!!!

Yes Yes Yes....love Atwoods too. :love

chicken math will really get you. I have to stay out of there! too much temptations!

It's horrible!!! Thankfully I don't have the brooders set up just yet or I probably would have gone home with a box of chicks. My parents are visiting from out of town and were in tow too and we needed to get going, so that was the other thing that saved me...THIS time!!

Things that make you scratch your head. I guess having hens is interesting to passerby's. I had someone come by, unsolicited and ask to buy laying hens for 10.00. He was politely invited to go somewhere else. I don't care if it is an EE in my table egg coop, I have a lot more invested in a laying hen after raising for 6 months to produce eggs.

Naked Necks!!!! They lay well, and are revered as a meat bird, flavor-wise. (Also easier to pluck!) They do well in the heat. They're great birds as well - pleasant and friendly.

Now, lets see. Tractor Supply requires you buy a minimum of six chicks. You bought 8...that might just be an indicator of the beginnings of chicken math.
Yep, chicken math. Guilty as charged... Those little Banty chicks were so cute, that I couldn't pass up getting a couple. Here's Little Jo. It's tiny (about 1/2 the size of the BOs), but pretty cute.

I'll try to get some pics of the others soon.

I am from Lubbock Texas. We have 6 children and just recently purchased 2 ducklings to train to be house ducks. It has started off as a challenging adventure but it's worth it. I would love to hear from anyone that had a duck living in their home. All advice is great advice at this point.

The closest experience would be the brooder box we built that is large enough for my wife to lay down in. It has raised many baby chicks until they feathered out. She is not amused of having chickens in the house, but that is as close as we get.

Try posting to The Duck Thread. There are any number of house ducks human companions that lurk about the hallowed halls of BYC. I am sure someone will be happy to share their experience with you.
