Just wanted to drop in and say "Howdy and Welcome" to all the newcomers to the BYC! I live in Central Texas and be glad to advise All that I can! I have Rhode Island Reds, Brown Leghorns, Barred Rocks, and Ameraucanas. It's been total enjoyment!

Central Texas and North of San Antonio are some of my favorite places in Texas. It is very pretty out there.

Oh, my goodness -- I finally understand why people get addicted to hatching!!!! Today is day 20 and we have 8 of 18 hatched so far and it's been so exciting each and every time!!!!!

I do think one has curled feet. Giving him a little time to dry and see if it gets better before I get some chick-boots made and on those little feet.

Just joined the forums last night (after lurking for years). We moved to Brady from the Marble Falls area last June and inherited a chicken when we bought our house. Best I can tell, she's and Australorp and might be one of the sweetest chickens I've ever been around. The family has been wanting some more chickens so stopped by the TSC in town on my way home and picked up 4 Golden sex-links, 2 Buff Orpingtons, and 2 Bantam chicks. I guess I'm a full-fledged chicken rancher now...

I'm glad to be here and hope to learn lots about how to better take care of my birds.

Those little Banty chicks were so cute, that I couldn't pass up getting a couple.

Here's Little Jo. It's tiny (about 1/2 the size of the BOs), but pretty cute.

I am from Lubbock Texas. We have 6 children and just recently purchased 2 ducklings to train to be house ducks. It has started off as a challenging adventure but it's worth it. I would love to hear from anyone that had a duck living in their home. All advice is great advice at this point.

Hello everyone. new to raising chickens. Built a coop with run and have a dozen chicks. A lot of good info on this site. Live just outside of Floresville.

LOL, I was addicted until my last batch of Muscovies didn't go so well

I live in San Antonio. Are there any farms that you know of between here and Austin that sell hens? I have not had much luck in my online searches.

My only layer has stopped laying. She laid for about a month and isn't anymore. The only thing I can attribute it to is a change in feed. Ironically, it is layer feed (H&H). I need to scour the yard and make sure she isn't hiding them, but I don't believe she is. Anyone else face this issue before?

It could be the feed change but more likely she is going or has gone broody. It sounds like you free range her. Check for any hidden nest in which she may be building a clutch of eggs.

Is it possible for them to go broody so soon? She is only 7 months old. I've been checking around the yard and haven't had any luck with any hidden gems. I'm hoping that's the case though :-/

Well everyone its been a few days since i posted so I thght I would let you all know I'm a proud poppa of 17 baby caturnix quail and still have eggs moving!! So looks like I will have more to join. I'm really excited because they hatched in my homade incubator that I built. It looks as tho i will hv around an 80% hatch so I am very happy
